Fighter of the year is a 4 man race between

Do you have anyone else to mention? I'll grab a picture do a write up and put them on the list.

My requirements are that you fought at least 3 times, didn't lose and have fights against top opponents. Finishes help too

Last year I gave it to izzy for reference. 4-0, 2 finishes, two title fights no losses and a fight of the year candidate against kelvin
Your requirements seriously limit whom even qualifies.
Holland is 4-0
Figueiredo has beaten higher level opponents

There aren’t any other fighters that compare, using your rationale.

The Chimaev love is getting way beyond cringe.
Anyone else want to see him go on a 3 fight losing streak just so his idiot fanboys stop making threads?
What was a devastating introduction to the ufc is being badly undermined by the unnecessary hype.

This is how the train derailment movements always start. With delusionl fans saying crazy shit.

Considering it's everyone's goal, winning the belt should trump activity, so Fig and Blach would be my forerunners.

I'm sure there are newcomer of the year and awards like that for the other guys, like Zat.
I disagree thoroughly. Both of those title wins were vacant belts. They didn't beat lineal title holders.

Yup it does. Can't just put anyone in it. You need to be active you need to win and you need top wins to be in it. Your criteria I'd argue is far too wide.

Assuming all three win those fights, they are 3 incredible selections, but Fig stands head & shoulders above the other 2.

Holland and Chimaev would be closer. Chim would certainly have the surging popularity and the divisionally better opponent, but Holland would have the busier & better run of opponents and arguably the more currently relevant ranked opponent of a better division.

Tough call

We are going for a very specific criteria here.

Must have 3 wins
Must have fought at two weight groups
Must be named Chimaev

Only one winner.
Lmao, I never said anything about weight classes, and i have khazmat 3rd behind holland and figgy. figgy is at one. I know that Khazmat has really annoying fans like dragonfly, but you're on the other side of that same coin. and you still have not named another person you think should be fighter of the year. Im waiting.

Yes and, again, it doesn't matter to me if it's lineal. A belt is a belt.
Okay.

but they are still lacking in the amount of wins id like to see from a fighter of the year.

It's Fig. There are levels to this game.
If fig loses it gets interesting. but if he wins he's gone. I only had him at a more tentative spot because his fight at 256 wasn't offical at the time i made the thread.

also figgy missed weight once. If he has any smudge on his fighter of the year claim, let it be that.

Remind me again, who has Khamzat beat? It’s probably Figueiredo since he’s more high profile than Holland but idk

He has beaten a MW (John Phllips) who in his next fight was nearly beaten to death by 'The Iron Turtle' who broke the UFC record for ground strikes on the floor after landing 258 on him. Phillips was released from the UFC following his fight with 'The Iron Turtle'.

He has beaten a WW Rhys Mckee who is now 0-2 in the UFC after dropping a Uninamous Decision to Alex Morono last week.

Most recently he beat Gerald Meerschart a veteran UFC MW with a promotional record of 6-6. Meerschart does not have any wins against ranked opponents, and his most recent win is a submission victory over Deron Winn.

If Johnny Walker is still talked about to this day as a hype train gone wrong I don't even want to know how Khamzats 'hype' will be remembered after Leon puts him to sleep.

1. Kevin Holland:

Currently at 4 wins 3 finishes this year. if he beats Jack Hermanson that makes it 5, with a win against a top 5 fighter. absolutely meteoric rise. in my opinion, a impressive win over Joker jack makes him a pretty clear fighter of the year choice.

2. Khamzat Chimaev

He obviously needs no introduction, very impressive and dominant fighter. Has won 3 fights this year, all in the first round, across multiple weight classes without absorbing any damage. much like holland, had a massive break out year, that is ending with a shot against a top 5 fighter.

3. Deiveson Figueiredo

After notching his 3rd straight finish this year at ufc 255, rumor has it that deiveson is looking for a quick turn around at ufc 256 to defend the belt again, if successful that will leave him at 4-0 for the year, with 3 finishes against top guys all in title fights.

So we're a month out who takes Fighter of the year this year? any other front runners I've missed?
Holland's certainly come a long way for me. I remember many in here telling me to pump the breaks when I was merely musing about his "chances" versus Izzy. Says he probably wouldn't even crack the Top 10.
Man, if he gets the dub vs. Hermannson a fight vs. his fellow lean mouthie can't be that far off.
I don't know, but War Holland I guess.

I agree, he's a great fighter and has only had interesting and entertaining fights this year. he's been a god send for 2020. Im rooting for him against joker jack
