Fighter missed weight = deduct points, agree or disagree?

- the weight-in is 1 hour before the fight
- if you miss it, you are obliged to fight in the superior division from now on
- there should be replacement fighters, in case of failed weight-ins

It’s a good idea, better than getting that extra percentage of purse money taken away from you which goes straight into the athletic commission’s pocket.

Hard agree. I've seen russian orgs implement that penalty system, giving fighters who missed weight a yellow card signifying that 1 point has been deducted from them.

The japanese are also really harsh on people who miss weight; if they win the fight it gets overturned into an NC.

Agreed. I would also like the UFC to implement hydration testing, like ONE Championship does.

and then some, take points, take money, I wouldn't even care if it was awarded as a no-contest if the fighter missing weight ends up winning.

However none of that addresses the issue of severe weight cutting in the first place, they are all good penalties, but something needs to be done so we don't get to that point

The easiest way to fix it is if a fighter signed a contract and misses weight. It should be a lose.

Good idea but if said fighter goes out and ko's his opponent he in effect hasn't received a punishment as he still has his full purse, unless you mean to combine punishments.

I think missing weight should force the fight to get cancelled and obviously the fighter who made weight gets his full purse + win money.
I think fighters would miss weight far less, and they would be forced to move up if they can't make the weight comfortably.

Alternatively, adopt the hydration tests just like ONE FC does.

50% purse goes to opponent + 5% per additional pound over the agreed upon weight. Money is the only thing they understand. The UFC clearly doesn’t give a shit. Heavy fines will force the fighters to.

I think the fight should be cancelled honestly. Look at something like Dern Cooper. That was totally messed up and unfair to Amanda. Plus don't the fighters who miss weight win a huge percentage of the time? I think weight cuts are more detrimental than people think

I like it - but I feel the opponent should still have a choice whether or not they take the fight irregardless of the points deduction.

Quite simple
Stop being Bush league.

Miss weight? Fight is cancelled. No matter what it is, for a belt, where, anything...
Make it completely unaccepted and bad for every side -
Fans, oppo, weight miser, organisation, sponsors, TV rights, etc... Eventually it'll become such a sin that fighter X won't want that burden on them.

It's an idea for sure, I think the best way though is to work weight into the contracts.

If you miss weight by "X" amount, the next fight has to be in the class above. Basically stalls the career of the offenders.

Yeah, I agree. A massive weight cut seems pretty concerning in terms of the fighters’ health.

The fighters won't want the burden on them but moneywise the burden on the UFC would be way bigger

I like points being deducted. If a fighter is like 10% or 8 or whatever over the weight class the fight should be scrapped with no way for the fighter who made weight to accept. Otherwise that fighter is pressured to almost always take it.
Also they should state it as a rule that if you miss weight you can not gain a higher ranking from that particular fight.

Even better would be to have something like that org where Ben Askren fought or amateur wrestlers that just stops the cutting.
