Watching Clay Guida bounce around in there and be competitive at 39 is perplexing. Especially in the USADA era
Guida has been in some wars too.

Shogun was old at 29 and a example in boxing Riddick Bowe also done at 29.
Rory Macdonald pretty much done at 30.

What do you is the key to longevity in mma?

PS crazy to think Kelvin Gastelum is only.29

It's his bullshit bouncing around and running away style, his longevity is still impressive, and you gotta respect it, but god damn his style is so annoying to watch. If his opponent doesn't go forward and create action NOTHING will happen in the fight.

I'm not convinced Clay is actually human.
He's the Geico caveman. He's got that Neanderthal strength and prehistoric mega HGH level

In this case, it's cardio imo. Having superior cardio gives you a massive advantage and lets you beat fighters with poor cardio almost automatically since you've given them a time limit to finish you. Just having the cardio to dictate the pace and where the fight takes place means you can manage to scrape a few wins and stay in the UFC. Beyond that, Madsen just had trash striking besides his ok jab and Guida has good counter-wrestling

If Rory is done it has jackshit to do with him being in wars. Lol

Guida has been in some was too.
To be fair, his last five opponents have been 35-40 years old and in most cases they were passed their prime; Guida's style also isn't very dependent on his age.

Guida hasn't had a good win since 2011 and is 4-6 in his last ten fights, so I guess it depends on how one defines "competitive".

Training methods, style of fighting, genetics, and weight class.

Said the guy who probably has never trained before.

Meh - always in great shape , his fight style goes hand in hand with longevity but was never elite or close to upper tier , hold s a few names on his resume ..... a career UFC calibur gatekeeper but I put some respect on that.
It's not like hes not in decline- he can get away with it in todays mma.

I guess I just wouldnt attach the word " perplexing " to Clay or his career.
