Trump is keeping around Scott Pruitt because he's the axe man in waiting. AG needs to be a licensed to practice lawyer and there is only two in Trump's cabinet - Pruitt and the Labor Secretary. Now any nominee who had senate confirmation could be used - but they don't have enough of a connection to Trump to destroy their careers for him. Pruitt sold his influence enough around as EPA that he'll be very wealthy the rest of his life from some polluter or another - he doesn't need his law license nor a good name to work for polluters, and polluters don't care about any negative publicity of paying him millions either once he is out of the Admin.

Trump fired Price and the VA guy for much less - he's defending Pruitt because he needs him.

If a deep state can be created, then it is logical to assume that political institutional states would be created. It gets reported in the news all the time. Headline: "Bush admin politicizing justice department". "Obama admin politicizing justice department". "Trump admin politicizing FBI". "Bush and Obama admins politicize state department".

These are stories of mini Democrat, and Republican deep state cells.

I dont know why you would assume a political class that was in bed with the moneyed class, wouldn't have their own mini fiefdoms.

The President (Trump) staffs his Cabinet and is not required to retain any personnel. And the FBI has since 2013 been Republican-led and did that whole dog and pony show of investigating Clinton.

I'm just going to leave this be, because I think it is illogical and absurd. You're free to think there is some illusory cabal going after Trump for fake crimes. I'll just focus on the real ones that are in plain view.

What do you call all the corporate fines being funneled into PAC's during the Obama administration, other than being in plain view?

Today should be interesting

Sounds like somebody sat him down and told him the limits of A-C Privilege and specifically the Crime-Fraud Exception.

Trump and Cohen cooked up the Stormy Daniels payment - and either Cohen paid it himself which is a campaign finance violation or Trump paid it and then didn't properly declare it on taxes. I suspect Trump did reimburse Cohen, but likely out of a Trump Foundation account or through campaign donations reroute and hid the payment to Cohen as an innocuous expense.

It's only in this specific case and instance. Mueller or the DA in SDNY cannot sit him down and make him talk about anything and everything Trump has ever said to him. But he has to talk about the Stormy Daniels case now. Cohen could still be out of the woods on this if he just claims "Yeah I was lying for my client, he did pay me back" BUT I suspect that Trump didn't use personal funds - he's too cheap to do that. Cohen could claim he didn't know where the money came from. But it throws Trump under the bus for using Campaign money or Trump Foundation money.

If Trump paid Cohen back using his own personal money all he has to do at this point is admit the affair and the payoff. I don't think anybody doesn't believe it happened at this point. His supporters just don't care and won't care. But he cannot do this if he didn't pay it personally because any other way and it's a crime - either Cohen paid for it and wasn't reimbursed which is a campaign finance violation, or Trump Foundation paid for it and that is a misuse of the charity and a crime or Trump Campaign hid the payment - which would have been an illegal use of donations.

I was speaking more broadly than just legal council but you’re right. The fact that he can’t retain top notch legal talent tells you a lot about Trump, doesn’t it?

Or get a loan in a US bank. That should be a major fucking red flag right there.

We are taking about foreigners obsessed with American politics.

Did you stroke out for a second.

It was my mistake assuming most people are pro American.
Lots here have other places at heart besides the u.s. and it shows in their posting
I am Australian ,VERY pro America but think Trump is at best a bumbling buffoon and at worst a corrupted clown totally owned by Russia and his black market financiers

Ye olde Catch 22. Pick 5 or 7 years in jail

What is the scope of this investigation? Does it stop when we find out Trump bailed on a traffic ticket? I understand that if you do something wrong you should be held accountable but I have never seen this amount of unchecked resources go towards anyone on anything before. If you are ok with this type of investigation throughout the course of an entire presidency with no evidence yet shown,...would you be ok with this exact same type of investigation (and it being the lead story on CNN everyday) for a president or presidential candidate that you support?

Several guilty pleas and indictments

We probably messed up mocking the left so much during and after 2016. They have turned into literal maniacs who are ready to burn down the entire country, our institutions, our systems, our norms...all to get Trump and marginalize his supporters. They are ready to destroy the country to get their way.

Of all the shitty things this guy has done, it seems kind of a shame that he's in hot water because of this. We'll see where the story goes from here...
