Favourite sword?

I keep a replica Gladius in my bedroom as my primary home defence weapon. It's an excellent close quarters weapon as you don't need a lot of room to use it effectively. Stabbing is usually quicker and more efficient than slashing.

if i ever rob your house i now know too wear full plate armour.

I was listening to this British HEMA guy that has a Youtube channel, School Gladitoria or something. He was saying this sword was actually a French sword that vikings got through trade <Eek2.0>. I haven't tried to confirm this yet though

I do like those swords a lot though for the same reason you said.

This is true, the post you responded to even called them Caroling swords. They are often called Carolingian swords, Carolingian being the name for the French/Frankish dynasty in this time and therefore lending its name to the period.

In Japan and a lot of other cultures they were expensive weapons when made well and worn as status symbols.
For sure. Swords requires much more resources and tradesmanship to manufacture compared to spears.
