The "favourite part of a sword" thread inspired me. Sincere credit to TS of that thread.
What's your favourite sword?
Mine just might be the Viking Sword.
It used a unique spiral weld (double helix weld) which was novel for its time, allowing for pliability and a stubbornness against breaking. Since it was one-handed It worked well in formation with the shield wall, but also if a combatant was fighting on his own. It carried a double edge and a point so it was versatile in how you directed your attack.
