Lots of great ones. I went with It Follows but love Train to Busan, Cloverfield, Split, Conjuring, Get Out and, Cabin in the Woods, A Quiet Place and IT.

I still need to see Hereditary and the Witch

Toss up between The Conjuring, The Witch and Hereditary for me.

Went with the Conjuring because you're a good guy, one of the best.

I barely rate a single movie on that list (have not seen a few) which shows how weak the era was. Probably rate Midsommar best of that lot. Lighthouse had amazing visuals the narrative was too messy and abstract. Get Out was good but a satire rather than pure horror. I thought Hereditary was awful. derivative and dumb.

Terrifier came out in 2016 so that film.

The movie is brilliant. It's a shame that Us and Nope were such garbage.

Honorable mentions to Split, Midsommar and Hereditary

I know I'll catch some flak for saying this, but this might be my favorite decade for horror

Voted Midsommar, one of my all time favs, and a comfort film. I love that so much is in broad daylight and feels like a beautiful fever dream.

Others I enjoy are cabin in the woods, Mandy, the witch.

I need to revisit it follows. I found the cinematography to be beautiful but didn’t care for the story. That was years ago.

I love the super 8 films in sinister but find the whole boogeyman character weak.

Loved the conjuring when I first seen it. Then I watched it far too many times and came to find it boring.

It follows

I actually liked Dr. Sleep better but wouldn’t consider it horror

I haven't seen many on that list, but of the ones I have the best were:

Split- Overall best on that list, but I don't consider it a full horror movie. More psychological thriller with horror/fantasy elements.
Sinister- First 3/4 is peak modern horror, but the final act was disappointing.
It Follows- Cool premise and very effective directing. Really gave me the creeps.
Midsommar- I felt violated after watching this. Jump scares, bloody knives, Jason/Freddy, etc. doesn't scare me as much as cults do for some reason. Eerie, nightmarish scenario these kids found themselves in.

It follows is what I would consider supernatural horror. Basically there is a curse that is passed sexually. If you have the curse you can pass it on by having sex with someone and give them the curse. The curse consists of (what is probably a demon) stalks you until it catches you and kills you. It can change forms but can only walk. Once it kills a victim it goes after the next in line kind of like a a stack structure if you’re familiar with computer data structures.

I found some of the forms it took to be pretty creepy. You can only see “it” if you carry the curse, no matter what position you are on the stack.
