It's like the 2 wins over Nog (TKO and arm-bar submission/break) didn't even happen! Not to mention Cro Cop, Bigfoot Silva, Brock Lesnar, Roy Nelson, Hardonk and Kongo.

Only the Silva win was in the last four years and, as with his second fight with Big Nog, Silva was well into his decline (Silva post TRT...).
Mir's had legit wins (I'd call Brock a wash, given Brocks unseemly promotion to the top, relative inexperience and subsequent win) and a good career.
You couldn't tailor an objective criteria to rate him 2nd to Fedor though. No way.

But you can spin a good line with text-book stats and vapid criticisms. Again, maybe there's a reason that you can't help in which case I apologize, and I don't think you're mean-spirited. But again, Frank Mir is a litmus of evolving mma knowledge (which includes actually watching events) of the last 10 years. I'll defend Mir's place with the all-time greats than GSP's place as the GOAT (or about as much).

Your posts are always lacking key fight-watching nuance. Sorry, but I have a very difficult time believing what you just said - more than any poster on Sherdog. And I've read thousands of your posts in and surrounding events and I can say without hesitation that something isn't quite right with your analysis.

I've searched the site for old PBP threads for fights that happened around 2011, and they don't show up either. Ever since they remade the site, a lot of old results don't show up by searching for them. Again, both definitely happened though.

I think the Sylvia win was better than the second win over Nog, as Nog was a shot fighter by that time, and Mir was getting smashed. Sylvia and Nog were Mir's two career wins over guys who entered the cage as top fighters. As for performances, neither of those really stood out, as the Sylvia fight ended right when it was started on a kind of fluky injury, and Nog looked like shit. I think Mir looked his best against Nelson.

Fair enough, it's true Mir was getting his ass whipped. I guess I just have Nog pretty solidly above Silvia and think that a tough, turn-around win against Nog was more impressive than a more dominant win over Silvia, but I can see that argument as well.

Also, those two titles were just promotional belts. It wasn't like today, when the UFC belt means you beat the guy who beat the guy. Mir beat maybe the fifth best HW in the world in Sylvia, and the No. 2 guy in Nog. Not the real HW champs either time.

Very true. I'm with you on Mir, he was extremely overrated for a long time.

I implore you to go rewatch that fight. Freeman blatantly held the cage on a takedown attempt, and then when Mir had him locked into a heelhook he kicked him in the head, which is also illegal. Big John completely fell asleep in that fight.

He should've gone into it as undefeated, and he would've only gotten better. His lack of explosiveness and general lack of movement has lost him a lot of fights.

It's because your fight/event watching declined to practically nil about 10 years ago and you pretend it hasn't - even thought it's fairly obvious to the keen eye that you rely on cursory glances/listens to mma sites, stats pages. I don't know that your viewing existed much prior to the Pride purchase but I'll at least give you those years.

I truly have missed "maybe" 5 UFC events of any type over that time, which I'm sure I rewatched all (having started watching UFC and then Pride in about 1995) so I don't get the wool pulled over my eyes (or at least very easily).

That's a really simplistic way of looking at things. The HW division can be close fights stylistically and still end abruptly.

If you actually go back and watch (key word, watch) the fight, you'll see Mir was doing well beforehand. If they fought again, would Mir stand so passive against the cage? If Mir was still 'bulked up', would he make the mistake of trying to fight Carwin in a "crafty" way as opposed to trying to overpower him? There are a lot of variables you're ignoring. "Hurr Durr he lost by KO so he must have no chance."

No, it's because you don't actually watch events/fights and post from a visual perspective to what's happening in context to everything surrounding the sport when the event/fight is going on. It's the nuance that trips people up when they disrespect Randy Couture's legacy, or even someone like Clay Guida. Stats don't tell the whole story. Neither do mma website headlines.
