like i said i enjoy the movie but as you stipulated it has politics or themes that are the opposite of mine
the pacing is great, never a dull moment. it is beautiful. and the actors all do very well.

but it is opposite of my views. and its not a matter of innocent or not. thats not my issue

thats not my problem with it. of course they were bloodthirsty and uneducated compared to modern people, but so was everyone else.
it was a different world.

tbf Mel Gibson movies rarely treat historical accuracy with anything but contempt. I could also say Braveheart for this thread (it was already mentioned).

Braveheart did, the difference is there are fewer sources the case of the originally mentioned movie and it is set during peak crazyness when they maximized the sacrifices because of bad weather, enough sacrifices supposed to help agriculture. That is why they assumed the Spanish that arrived were gods.

Athens was the primary organizer of the Greek resistance, but I will concede the Spartans are the ones who got the spotlight so democracy is ancillary here.

I'm not specifically a fan of Yarvin but I'd probably agree with him a lot more than Locke and Rousseau.
 
Right now it's Elysium. It's a communist fantasy. The rich live on a space station paradise and have a technology that can keep them young and healthy forever, and which they won't share. The rest of humanity live in squalor on an environmentally ruined earth, and are treated with utmost callous. You have the psychopathic South African villain. But it's a fun movie and Blomkamp does sci-fi well.

He thinks outside the liberal box of egalitarian populism. More generally the reactionaries are not afraid to slaughter some sacred cows, like tabula rasa for example.

I don't buy tabula rasa and i have nothing in common with Yarvin. Also reactionary as a word is used the same way counter reactionary was in the Soviet Union.
 
Not a movie but the TV show The West Wing, in my mind, is one of the best and we'll made shows to ever exist. Watched the first run, watched it multiple times after.

I was solidly liberal at the time. Thought I was super informed. Had a grand awakening on how uninformed I truly was. I now have voted for candidates from both major parties and consider myself an independent voter.

The show hits vastly different now. Topics and people I agreed with in the past are now more of a grey area. It's quite a jarring experience to see how Jed Bartlett approached issues and the job compared to how the Obama's and Biden's of the world operate today. It's still one of the best written and produced shows and I highly recommend it to everyone regardless of where you land politically.
 
Tropa de Elite. Probably as opposite my politics as it gets (it's a horribly flashy little film), but as long as you don't think too hard about the real-world implications it's pretty enjoyable.
