Just recently rewatched Lesnar vs Carwin, and I honestly forgot how brutal that first round was. People can say what they want about him, but Lesnar is a truly tough SOB.

We see fights like this frequently in MMA- a fighter is very dominant in the first round, and winds up losing due to 1.) fatigue: in the case of Carwin vs Lesnar, or recently Lombard vs Magny
or 2.) the sheer craziness of MMA: Many people didn't score the first round of Hendo-Shogun 2 a 10-8 for shogun, but Shogun was ridiculously close to finishing that fight and wound up losing by an H-bomb out of nowhere! Edgar vs Maynard 3 was the same case- I remember thinking- where did that right hand come from? And even more recently- Hendo vs Lombard...although by now we should all know you can NEVER count out Dan Henderson (did I just quote Joe Rogan?)

I'm sure we would potentially see more instances of "case 1" in boxing and kickboxing if the rounds were longer duration. Those sports are ridiculously challenging in their own right, but the combination of shorter duration rounds and a lack of grappling/cage fighting is more conducive to cardio.

What are some of your favorite fights where the winner dropped the first round 10-8?

My personal fav- Edgar Maynard 3.

Edgar Maynard 2 for me. I was a butthurt B.J. Penn fan and was Luke Rockhold salty towards Frankie, after he survived that crazy first round I gained so much respect for Frankie and did a complete 180 on him. That was one of the biggest displays of heart ever in MMA. Hespect for Frankie

Wasn't tate vs zingano close to a 10-8 first round?

Magny/Lombard
Shields/Hendo

Magny and Shields both lose round 1 10-8 then WON round 2 10-8 lol
two of the biggest turnarounds ive seen

Wasn't tate vs zingano close to a 10-8 first round?

Hmmmm, I'm not sure if I remember Tate vs Zingano too well, but I remember in Cat's fight against Nunes she was getting crushed until somehow Cat got back up and landed a crazy takedown where she threw Nunes from a headlock. that was insane, pretty sure the takedown saved her from losing the round 10-8

Edgar Maynard 3, huge comeback victory for Frankue and finishing Msynard was a great and definitive end to the trilogy

Edgar/Maynard 2 and 3. (I know Edgar didn't win the second fight.)
Was the first round of Anderson/Sonnen 1 a 10-8? I can't remember which round was the 10-8.

I gave Nunes 10-8 for the first round. She put on an absolute beatdown, Zingano went limp a few times. Then she gassed as usual and Zingano laid down a brutal beatdown on her stopping her late.

Cat is a slow starter but a savage once she gets going, I'm looking forward to her return at UFC 200.

Edgar vs. Maynard 2 & 3 are two of my favorite fights. The heart that Frankie showed in them first rounds was amazing.

Edgar/Maynard 2 and 3. (I know Edgar didn't win the second fight.)
Was the first round of Anderson/Sonnen 1 a 10-8? I can't remember which round was the 10-8.

It might have been, Silva got clipped and controlled the whole round pretty much.

I would say Matt Serra vs Shonie Carter was a 10-8 1st round as Carter mounted almost no offense other than defending submissions.

Then in the last 10 seconds of the 3rd round . . .

Was Lesnar/Carwin first round a 10-8?

If so I'd go Lesnar / Carwin
