Movies FANTASTIC FOUR [2015] Thread v.2 (Dragonlord's Review)

isnt this based on ULT FF, in which case its very true to the tone/story

Ya I just googled that and it appears to be exactly modeled off that.

And that also proves my prior point that even in the comics they have no issue retconning or reimaging the comic book characters differently if they think it will sell.

I am not sure why so many think Hollywood of all industries would be true to comic book origin stories when the comic book writers themselves were not when it came to trying to boost sales.

At least that has been done in the comics with Miles Morales.

lol. I just looked that up too. The whining about this needs to stop now when the comics themselves set the precedent that their characters can be changed at will and nothing is sacrosanct in that regards.

Those movies are just fine, nowhere near as bad people make them out to be. They just dislike it because they think they're supposed to. Notice all the people in this thread shitting on them just say ''it sucks'' and have nothing of value to contribute. Objective, technical or otherwise. They are definitely loaded with flaws but have tons of elements to like as well. Iron Man II is in the same boat. It's episodic nature made it the first of it's kind and it took tons of heat for it. If it were released today the reception would be completely different.

As for the Fantastic Four franchise itself, we can be honest here. Most of the people here aren't fans of the characters or books anyways and any movie under this tent would be a hard sell regardless. I can't even remember the regs who actually liked the F4 books. Think it's just Hellboy, DL and CHL?

add me to the list, chl doesn't even read does he? there are a few more in the cbd thread

You guys are so negative.

First, the trailer excited me.

Second, who the fawk cares that torch is black.

Third, this ain't no reboot. There was no first FF film as far as I am concerned. Only a piece of garbage purporting to be a movie called FF.

The trailer didn't excite me at all but it did leave me slightly more intrigued then I was expecting.

i have always had a love for f4. the first movie, though it doesn't rank highly in my all time list of comic2film movies, i still watch it if its on because it's enjoyable. the 2nd one i have only seen once and i never really liked it at all.

Peter Parker wasn't race swapped. He died in Marvel's Ultimate comics and Miles Morales became the second Spider-Man.

yes but the point is that the comic books themselves don't have any issue re-imaging, retconning and re-writing characters in completely and new ways. We have had examples of ultimate FF where the origins are completely changed. Nothing is sacrosanct in comic books and only what sells dictates what they write.

So why anyone would think Hollywood would hold to a higher standard and ONLY when it comes to white characters not being changed, is crazy.

I am so horrifically sick of the term "reboot". And the concept really, as it relates to movies.

The comics have 40-60 years of continuity and try to stay fresh while being close to the status quo. If their fresh ideas fail, they just find new ways to reset to the status quo. Having to tell stories with characters having 40 years of fictional history and create the illusion of consequence and the unknown is difficult and the rehashing of ideas helps that.

In the movies, the studios have a chance to present the characters in a completely new medium and universe in their most beloved form. A tried and true state of the character that fans have been waiting for for decades. This is what most people are referring to when they say ''...in the comics''. Of course, some things don't translate to film and other changes are improvements from the archaic source material.

Regardless, I think you see how your example isn't really applicable here. A change in comics doesn't mean the same as a change for the films. Generally, people aren't opposed to changes in Superhero films but they are opposed to obviously needless ones.

Personally, I don't really care about Human Torch being black but it's such an obvious attempt to spread the film's demographic that it will probably be distracting come release time. He wasn't going to top Evans anyways, so either way.

Having a black Torch does give them the option of a shocking death in the movie. Then replace with white actor who takes up his mantle and boom! You get unforeseen drama, you've drawn in. New demographic, and you return to original character loyalty.

I read that they're giving Torch a serious case of vitiligo in the first film.
If fans don't dig him, they'll replace him, if they do they'll cure him.

Lol.

So imagine you're a producer on the 2nd F4 film. What's your logical method for transferring Black Torch's powers to White Torch?

If it were White to Black, he could just steal them. ZING. Sorry, had to say that one before one of you did.

I could only imagine what insane plot Fox would cook up to transfer powers. ''The Black Torch transfers his will into his ring, and it finds the most worthy host as if it were sentient after his death...''
