F.C.C. Repeals Net Neutrality Rules... Thanks Trump.

I think the ability to charge what you want for a service you provide is good for business. That's just me, maybe you have a different idea? Lol.
The concerns are this will stifle Innovation from smaller companies if their access to broadband is squeezed in some way so in all likelihood this will be bad for startups and for us consumers.

This net neutrality adjustment will improve pricing and meet customer demand with higher satisfaction.

Cutting Medicare and the ACA funding will improve benefits and coverage by simplifying the system and improving competition to bring down prices.

Opening Social Security to private accounts via the for-profit private retirement system will improve benefits and make all participants millionaires.

The magic of the Market realized through privatization maximization.

ISPs operate regional monopolies

My area has multiple ISPs ready and willing to provide service(s).

Is there a reason why you'd lie about this? Could it be to suit your own (laughable) views?

Do they still have data caps? That’s the real impediment to working as a video streaming service. Latency is not much of an issue except for gaming or VOIP+teleconferencing.

You can get all you can eat packages.

But i thought the root of the argument was that data should be considered a necessity utility -- video streaming to me is not a necessity. Basic connectivity for emails and government forms /services., sure.

But is netflix and gaming a necessity to the point that government has to step in to protect cost on them? Is that not a luxury?

just to play devils advocate.

Keep puffing up, it really makes you seem like a bigger and scarier fish.

You make stupid statements cloaked as questions, you get dismissive answers. Yes, markets ripe for monopoly and abuse are regulated more because that’s how it should be. Sorry.

I think the real story here is the idea that you'd think anyone would go to you for a lesson on market regulation(s).

LMAO. I suppose everyone has to feel a certain way about themselves.

Ok, so you happen to live in an area with an oligopoly. Many people do not. I said there are regional monopolies dummy, so I wasn't lying.

this is true BD for larger, metropolitan or more populated areas

not far from me, in the Palm Springs/Indio region they have Verizon FiOS, TWC/Spectrum, and I think ATT Uverse and another. Same w/ most of the Inland Empire or Riverside county and SD counties.

Up here we have TWC...you take and like it or get nothing at all

Granted, I do live in Hills Have Eyes II territory

Well, video streaming is one of the common uses of the internet, so it’s not a like-for-like substitution if it can’t be used for one of the basic things people do on the internet these days without big surcharges.

I think HughesNet is a great competitor for low-usage users like older adults that don’t do much video streaming, but it’s like one of those little Eco cars that barely fits one person in it - useful just for very limited cases. I’m glad it’s there as an option but no one is arguing that they really compete with normal automotives, you know?

And let’s not forget the latency issues that render it unusable for VOIP / video calls.
I think the real story here is the idea that you'd think anyone would go to you for a lesson on market regulation(s).

I mean I’m not an expert but apparently you needed some really basic lessons. Keep puffin’ up though, brah.

This is true for local communities inside big market areas. I know plenty of people that live in Manhattan that only get TWC.

Plus the bigger point is you can't compete with those guys since you're not allowed to go in and just build the infrastructure lol!

I wonder if it's possible to piggyback off others installed equipment, like I think Citywide PCS, Straight Talk and Cricket/Boost and shit do for phone plans as they don't have their own cell towers and what have you....

Admittingly, I have no idea exactly how the wiring of the fiber optics works, i.e. is it being fully optimized, or is their space/bandwidth for others to utilize the same infrastructure that is normally just sitting there unused for revenue or future expansion purposes

Since this has never happened, like it has in the cell phone industry, i'm going to assume the answer is NO haha

Showers are not a necessity but water is still a protected utility..... would be my retort.

god damn the head of the fcc is such a tool. hes just straight trolling now. its not like some random moron on a forum trolling or even a blowhard who gets off on his own ego like ben shapiro. its the head off the fcc. yes youll still be able to do all this shit but at what price?

HAHA what? Do you have any idea how the internet works? There is no way to obtain an external IP to communicate with other ISP's and networks. The ISP's themselves own all of the external IP addresses and the last external IP was purchased about about 15 years ago. When you get home internet you are given one of these external IP's which allow your private network to communicate with every other external network. You cant just "hack" into an ISP. If your talking about leasing a line streight from a point of presence, again the ISP's own those so good luck. Its not like stealing power or cable dude.
I've been in the IPTW local2 since 2004, pretty sure that means I know how this works.

Yeah I don't know the technical details but you bet your ass those ISPs will tell them to fuck off!

What are you guys whining for? Everyone knows these companies are rational actors who just want to put food on the table for their families. Ajit Pai would never screw over the beloved Murkan consumer. Just let the market sort it all out, surely these companies would never collaborate or engage in rent-seeking behavior. Youre all just a bunch of negative Nancys.

but you dont pay for all you can use water -- you pay per use. and if you want luxury usage of water, you pay extra for that.

if the government wants to ensure 25 gigs at 10 mbps for things like checking email, job searches, filling out drivers licence renewal forms -- for a a reasonable price to all that would cover basic necessity

Ok, so you happen to live in an area with an oligopoly. Many people do not. I said there are regional monopolies dummy, so I wasn't lying.

You noted that "ISPs operate regional monopolies" with no qualification. I think the [disingenuous] point you were trying (and failing) to make was obvious.

In any case the claim is incorrect, your lying notwithstanding. The situation I'm in is hardly rare.

How do you reconcile the fact that over 90% of census blocks have access to at least 2 service providers (not even including satellite) with the clear lie you penned in your other posting?

Again - could it be that you're lying and misrepresenting to suit your (laughable) views?
