People bowl for fun too, but I would also shit all over that.

They’re trying to simulate or approximate medieval battles. But the problem is medieval warriors didn’t spend 10 minutes hacking the same guy with a sword because one or two hacks were all that was needed, because the swords killed them. So ultimately these simulated battles take the shape of something completely different and almost entirely antithetical to that which they are attempting to simulate. That’s why it is pointless.

It's just recreating battles and people who are interested in that time in history I think. They have civil war battle recreations in the US but they don't shoot real muskets or cannons. It's just for fun and to remember a little piece of history. It's as close as they can get to the real thing without actually killing each other.

For the Civil War recreations, they should used muskets that shoot paintballs. If you get hit, you’re out of the battle.

Also, I would bet that in all the Civil awards recreations, they only fight the battles in which the south won, or they just change history and make the south win battles they never won. Those are stupid too, btw.

You’re on an mma forum trashing something for not being “authentic”. Should we just say mma is stupid because there’s rules, refs, gloves and cups, etc.? And it’s a simulated “fight” with modified rules to try to prevent someone from dying?

like, i get it's for fun but...fuck, they are so fucking weird. i've been to most of these types of things and they are just usually pretty shitty and strange.

the worst is by far a renaissance fair. it's like an even shittier version of a carnival. the last one i went to was on a horse ranch so naturally the whole place smelled like horseshit. the games are all stupid (except throwing axes and daggers, that was kinda fun) and they charge like $200+ for home made clothes and shit. but people were really enjoying it so whatever i guess. at least there was plenty of booze and roasted almonds and shit that kept me going.

the best "larp" thing i've seen is a civil war reenactment, but even that was stupid. we just stand there watching old guys fall down and lay there. but then i'd watch people in the audience crying and shit and it's just fucking awkward.

How about combat bowling? Where combatants roll bowling balls across a hardwood floor in attempt knock their opponents over.

LOL - Ya, it all seems really weird to me. I haven't been to a renaissance fair but I'd probably go once just to see it. But I imagine it being a lot of weird people and people overacting or just being a bit odd.

haha....people crying at the reenactment? Damn, I guess they really got into it! I almost feel embarrassed for some of the people in those videos or who reenact b/c they take it sooooooo serious. It's still real to them damnit!
 
I don't think I'd want a hobby where I'd be coming home to broken fingers and dented shins.

Lol what the hell ren faires and civil war reenactments have you gone too? I’ve been to a bunch and they are pretty fun.
