why was a 22 year old japanese female wrestler so beloved here? seems random. was it just because she was attractive?

I don't think she's majorly popular on this site or anything (likely more current exposure because the incident got a lot of coverage in Japan), though Sherdog does have a Pro Wrestling section and some of the members there branch out to other sub forums like Mayberry and P&M.

Looks definitely help but in her case she was legitimately talented and was easily the most charismatic of the promotion she was under called Stardom. She was a rising star but even in her brief career she accomplished a lot at just 22; she's one of the few that's wrestled at both Madison Square Garden and The Tokyo Dome (Japan's MSG equivalent), and that was the first Woman's match there in years. She was their biggest merch seller, won their major tournament last year, and was on a major reality show over there, albeit with a tragic result.

She was mixed, Half Japanese & Half Indonesian.
