I enjoy the strategy associated with trying to box, while simultaneously trying to avoid compromising your only available weapons (I.e. breaking your hands). You can’t just throw 100% power like you can with wraps and gloves. You need to throw lighter and more carefully and accurately. Conversely, a fighter can use their forehead as a weapon to break hands.

Accordingly, I like how, in that way, it mimics a street fight (involving only hands, of course).

Also, I’m not going to lie, I enjoy the visceral spectacle of it. Very raw to watch. I respect all combat athletes, but I think it takes a special kind of grit to sign up for BKB...

He was 32-1 at one point and 9-0 UFC and WEC combined. I don’t think he was figured out. TJ beat the shit out of him and I think he simply lost all of his confidence. He might have been figured out a little bit but it was more of the beating he took.. When you are on the top of the mountain like that, and somebody comes along and beats you down so badly. It Has to fuck with your head.

But I remember the template being set vs. Wineland. Then Dillashaw executed to a tee. Then people like Brian Kelleher were very much replicating that type of performance. A formula has been established.
