Evolution of MMA GIF Challenge

when Condit fight Nick Diaz, that points the evolution when everyone realizes that you can win a fight being a pussy, running and using baby low kicks

Instead of standing flatfooted doing absolutely nothing but taunt, get punched/kicked because you are not well rounded enough to stop a "pussy" who "runs"

Try "running" from a good fighter like Aldo and see how that goes

MMA won't really be evolving a whole lot anymore in my opinion in terms of how fights are fought (unless somebody creates some new effective fighting discipline which really isn't likely at all). However I can see one more point of evolution for MMA coming up soon, this being the possible Rousey vs. McMann match-up which would be the first match-up in the UFC between two Olympians (and two Olympic medalists at that). This is a big deal for the sport in my opinion. It could mark the moment where most of the world class Judokas, Wrestlers and maybe even Boxers start training MMA once their Olympic careers are done.

MMA will be evolving for another 30 plus years. Look at Basketball, Football, Hockey, Boxing etc... None of them where done evolving 20 years in and MMA will be no different

Agreed. That was an amazing exchange for a 4th round.
Tito really slid into an underwhelming fighter slot.
And can't we all agree that Hammil turns every fight into a bore unless he loses in devastating fashion?

The Shamrock I was talking about was Ken. Against Frank, Tito gassed out horribly and ended up tapping to hammerfists crumpled in a little ball, clinging to Frank's leg.

And Hamill has had some pretty good fights. He wrecked Boetsch and Munoz pretty good. He just struggles when put in there with wellrounded fighters that can keep it standing. Not the most entertaining fighter by any means, but not remarkably boring either.

The thing about Tito's cardio is that it only ever looked great against Shamrock. He gassed horrifically against Rashad, Griffin in their first fight, and Hamill. The myth Tito loved to put out their about his training being such that his cardio was the best in the fight game was just that.

Those fights were in the tail end of his career. I'm talking about prime Champion Tito. Who had better cardio then he did in his division during that time?

1. Are you talking about male or female Olympians?

There are already lots of male Olympic Judo medalists (including golds) who have crossed over to MMA (with limited success). A few off the top of my head:

Hidehiko Yoshida - 3 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze
Naoya Ogawa - 5 golds, 4 bronzes
Satoshi Ishii - 3 golds, 1 silver

As to Olympic wrestlers, too many to name. Just going by who I can remember:

Mark Coleman
Dan Henderson
Daniel Cormier
Matt Lindland

So this is no evolution at all for the male Olympians...

2. Boxers won't come to MMA, unless they are washed up. They make less money in MMA...

Mark Schultz is an Olympic and 2-time World champion freestyle wrestler and a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Wikipedia). He fought in UFC 9 and demonstrated how effective wrestling could be in MMA.

I used to see this dude shopping at a grocery store when I lived in Utah. He was the Brigham Young University (BYU) wrestling coach at the time and I guess they told him he wasn't allowed to fight in the UFC or they would fire him. I think had they let him continue fighting, he would have done really well.

Here's an interview of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rm_WM1WggQ

Prime champion Couture had better cardio than Tito. He was also completely superior in every aspect of MMA. He whooped Tito back in 2003. Do you consider that Tito's prime? If you wanna go back to 2000-2001 when he won and was actually actively defending the title, his fights with Wanderlei and Matyushenko were the only relatively demanding fights he had at that time (emphasis on relatively) and all we really got to see from those was that he was a good wrestler. Sinosic, Tanner and Kondo were squashes that didn't last more than a round. The bottom line is, the only reason people thought Tito's cardio was good is because he said it was unbelievable and his training partners talked about how he trained like an animal. We never got to see this cardio in action.

At the end of the day, in every truly demanding fight Tito had his cardio came up short against guys whose cardio was legit. He always had an excuse ready, but that doesn't change the fact that his performances indicate he was nothing special cardiovascularly.

Actually, he did manage to outlast Vitor, but a lot of people managed that at that point in his career.

quick, somebody post the GIF of the giant dude in Pride grabbing a plank from the ring and trying to bludgeon his opponent with it
