Everybody is ducking everybody!

Get over it. Just like the manager said, "bigger names to fight, not worth the trouble." It's called Prizefighting, Cotto at this point wants to maximize his stack. He's got nothing go prove anymore.

People act like this is new. I always point out how long it took to make Hagler vs Leonard. Hearns vs Leonard sat on the shelf for a while too.

ITs just worse now because the promoters are so reluctant to work with each other.

I think it's worse now because we hear more about it in the news a lot. There weren't countless youtube channels and boxing websites and twitter dropping details and the like back then. It hasn't changed, it's just that we hear more now.

U said Leonard twice. U meant Hearns? or as Hagler would say "the pink toe excuse".

And what? wasting ranking spots in 3 sanctioning bodies for almost a year now? retire if u dont wanna face any champions, he should have done so after taking the martinez belt, or when we watched his family sitting awkward with crickets sound affects while cinnamon beat him. Atleast Brook took the fight he was too chicken shit to take.

It's not ran like a sport, it's ran like a business.
True, u can't force them all to compete each year like normal sports, so these limited number of matches need to be specifically chosen. Kinda reminds of how brutal combat sports is and how must respect these people deserve on the highest level.

Im confused, you say ducking Brook, and not wanting to fight champions, etc. Which Middleweight belt does Kell Brook have?

Sure, its always happened but that doesn't mean it isn't a perpetual pain in the arse.
The guilty parties deserve flack and brave respect. Brook>Canelo.

He is a champion, and cotto is dropping down. I never said Brook was a middlewei...aw fuck it this isn't going anywhere. you do realize this thread is not about one match up, the op link one example.

I dont even know if there are Boxing fans anymore. Its seems like there are just fans of fighter who look for reason to fanboy their guy and shit on everyone else, like Freddie Roach.

Cotto is at the tail end of a HOF career. I'm not going to give him shit for passing on Brook. He's taken on bigger challenges and I think deserves that respect.

I see this a lot in MMA. If you go to the main board it's as if you have to be either a fan or hate a particular fighter, and you can't enjoy a fight where someone you don't like wins. A good fight is a good fight, I couldn't give a shit who it is.

.
huh? I was talking about 2 different fights. It took many years for Hagler vs Leonard to happen. Hearns vs Leonard was proposed quite a bit earlier than it actually happened too.

I notice this too. I think there are more knockout fans than boxing fans right now.

D'you mean the Hearns-Leonard rematch? 'Cos that was eight years (thanks, Ray!).

Hearns-Leonard I was made (in September '81) 13 months after Hearns won his first title (which was 2nd August 1980), & less than two years after Leonard won his first title (30th November 1979). Those two years include losing & winning to Durán & beating Kalule.

It took that long because Leonard wanted no part of Hagler. It was only after he was retired and wanted to make a comeback that it made sense for him. Possibly because Hagler began to seem more vulnerable. Hagler was chomping at the bit to fight Leonard for a long time.

How long did it take to make Leonard vs Hearns or Duran? Sure it takes time to iron out an agreement but when it takes years for a fight to come together it's usually because one fighter or team just doesn't want the fight. Same with Canelo vs GGG and Mayweather vs Pacquiao.

Cotto is old and on the way out but you can't just force him to take the toughest fights or retire. If he's ranked by the organizations it's because he's better than other fighters, or at least because of his accomplishments or even corruption, but that's not going to impede other fighters from getting title shots or other elimnation fights from taking place. I'd rather see him in competitive fights on his way out than taking a beating for a big payday.

Especially the casuals have always been KO fans. They don't understand anything that's going on until one guy drops like a sack of potatoes and everyone leaves happy.

Leonard vs Hearns took a normal amount of time to make. Like say De La Hoya vs Trinidad. The Hearns rematch and the fight against Hagler took so many years because Leonard wasn't really interested in those fights. Sort of like Mayweather vs Pacquiao took so long. Hopefully we'll see GGG vs Canelo next year, before one of them loses, but it might take years or even never get made since the Canelo side just doesn't seem interested.
