Renowmed - while anonymous - MMA writer Jack Slack states that every LHW in UFC today - or in the last 10 years - would "lay a whooping" on 1996 Don Frye.

JackSlack writes fairly well but it's a bizarre thing to say, almost disrespectful to a real OG.

I dont know about that. The thing is Don Frye was iron chinned dude most of the time, and man you gotta KO him,cos if you try some TKO bullshit on Don the Predator Frye, his mustache protects him from most damage, and he will just TKO you instead.

Lol, yeah sure. Attention whoring clickbait bs.

The Predator would whoop Smith(#5), Oezdemir(#7), Cirkunov(#10) and would make Walker(#11), Spann(#12) and Craig(#15) look just stupid.

Volkan would beat the absolute shit out of him, what's he going to do to Volkan?

Craig subs him off his back without too much issue too imo.

Love Don, but the game has evolved since his day.

Prime Frye barely knew BJJ. He would get tapped by any of them.

Yeah but fights start in the feet.

Frye had good boxing fundamentals and was a national standout wrestler who packed a good punch and a hell of a chin with good conditioning. I dont think any LHW today would overcome all that just because they came around 20 years later than him

I agree the modern top ranked LHWs have tools to get him in a bad position and sub him, and some other outstriking him. Far from every prelim card filler in UFC though

Honestly don't know about Alvey, he has an iron chin and is hard to hold down and has good pop in his punches himself. If he did beat him it'd likely be by decision imo.

I doubt it as well but still you are talking about guys who have been ranked or at least got close to it.

I dont think every LHW in UFC in the last decade - even the lowest caliber - could overcome Frye's punches and wrestling prowess, as Jack Slack says

Oh yeah, I'm sure he'd get past the likes of Henrique Da Silva, Joachim Christensen and Vinicius Moreira without any issues.

It's people like Cutelaba than I think he'd have a tough time with.

Frye vs Maldonado would have been a good fight. Most likely it would look similar to Frye vs The Hawtness.

Maldonado is a pretty competent boxer, he'd be ripping up Don's body rather than doing the instant CTE stuff that was going on in that fight.

Dunno who'd win though, would be fun for sure.
