Every Jiri fight explained

I do think can look at the middle of Jiri's career especially and see he did actually have some more "tactical" performances were he doesnt just go hell for leather, the years after the KO loss to Mo in Rizin really come to mind.

I think you could argue that its really when he joins the UFC that he pushes more towards hyper aggression, perhaps he felt it was the best way to have rapid sucess in the UFC and honestly it seems like he was probably right. If he was going to go to war and take the punishment to become popular it made sense to do it in the UFC were people would actually see it.

I don't think that was really an issue vs Alexs though, Jiri actually seemed to be less aggressive in those fights than the rest of his UFC career, he became more aggressive as the 1st one progressived but arguebly because he knew Alex was eating him up with lowkicks.

The first fight he was careful but still did really well

His aggression did push Alex back several times, but his stance left him to eat those kicks.

The second fight alex figured out how to cut off him charging, and his offense being his defense, left him extremely vulnerable. He kinda got stuck in the crosshairs. That's def something he been working on.

Really the trouble is Alex is simply an amazingly strong counter puncher, arguably the best counter puncher in LHW history.

I think that major problem in this fight was Jiri's mentality and not following gameplan which was to push Pereira but Jiri honestly looked shooked...everything was wrong. - Before first KD at the end of round trainers started to yell on Jiri to do finally something cuz its last 10s and he rushed in. Great execution of Pereira in moments where everything went wrong for Jiri.

BTW there are some hints and info that Ankalaev's team is shitting bricks when they are thinking about Jiri matchup. They like matchups where they can figureout guy and prepare everything in forward and thats not possible vs JIRI. So there is big possibility that Jiri simply needs Pereira to win and fight him for 3rd time to be able to touch title...cuz Ankalaev will probably callout Jan if he wins vs Pereira. :D

I’m a fan of Jiri as a person and as a fighter, but unfortunately Poatan being the champ is very unfortunate for him, because he has some the worse possible characteristics for Jiri.

1) he’s an excellent counter striker

2) remains very composed in chaos

3) has huge one punch KO power

Jiri is most effective on the attack, in wild exchanges, with offense prioritized over defense … so unfortunately I think that 8/10 times Poatan gets him.

If he gets a third shot, he needs to make changes to his whole fighting style, not only some tactical adjustments … which isn’t easy and often might even be worse, as you try to force yourself to move differently from your instincts and experience.

This man is gift for old mma fans. In a time where weight cutting, proper gameplanning and specialized camps are the norm and where elite fighters fight 1-2 times a year, this guy does weird shit in forests, battles demons in dark rooms, acts like a comic book character and still beats everyone not named Alex. And is a class act outside the ring as well. Crazy career so far, lets hope that chin lasts a few more years.
