A few years back they showed a few live UFC PPV's in select movie theaters, I never went but I always wondered what it would have been like. It seems like it would be kind of lame tbh, no alcohol or good food, but I guess seeing it on that massive screen could be cool.

Anyone here try it? Did it suck?

They showed one at Alamo Draft house not too long ago. Thought about going but didn't. It'd be a cool experience... Particularly there as they have craft beers and food.

Would be pretty cool to have good seats and see it that big with more people

My little brother lives down in San Antonio and was telling me about Alamo. Sounds like a great place to grab a few beers and catch a card.

Movie theaters serve alcohol here. Just expect to pay professional sporting event prices.

That or bring a flask, ya pansy

I'd like to know others' experiences also. I'm considering it for this weekend. That way if McGregor loses I won't break my new computer into a million pieces; I'll just Stockon Slap some mfkrs.

I'm actually in Houston... They built one over here about two years ago. They do cool stuff like Star Wars marathons and movie star appearances on occasion. That guy from American Pie was there a while ago when they did a marathon of those movies. Anyway, yeah, the atmosphere would be outrageous at a theater with beer :)

bro, i'm too busy analyzing the fights to sit around with a bunch of just bleeds

I watched two events - GSP vs Hendricks, and I think Weidman vs Vitor.

Both times were awesome in a weird way. Both events were played in very large theaters, and were maybe 10% full, if that. You could sit anywhere. The few people that were there were all obviously huge fans, so being vocal was totally cool, and kind of a given since it was so empty.

One theater didn't serve alcohol, so I pounded a beer and two double rum & cokes at a bar in the same strip and walked over. Missed the first match due to said drinking... oh well.
The other theater did serve so I had one beer before I got there, and another tall draft after the second fight was done.

It was very very enjoyable as a "once a year" type of thing.

Will UFC 200 be in IMAX 3D?

God, I hope not. 3D hurts my eyes.

On the contrary, the theater will probably be mostly empty, save a handful of mostly smart fans.

It was the polar opposite of seeing it at a BW3s.

I've only been with Matt Hughes.

Seems to me the room would be full of know it all's that would constantly be talking saying what somebody should be doing.

Kinda like here on Sherdog

There's a small chain of movie theaters up here in Southern NH/Northern MA called Chunky's, and I've watched quite a few events there and it's awesome. They have recliner chairs and tables in the movie screening areas, as it's a bar/restaurant/theater and it's by far the best place I've ever watched an event. Good drinks, food and comfortable furniture, with a big screen, can't beat it.

reason, where are you considering doing this ? I live on long island and Fandango has had recent UFC events (as recent as this past summer, mendes/mcgregor), but they havent had the most recent ones so I havent gone. I went to the fandango site earlier today and it doesnt look like they have it for this weekend., Disappointed.

As for the experience when I did go, it depends on what you are looking for. no acholol in theaters in NY. And the theater was not crowded at all. there was a surprising lack of cheerring, clapping, or any emotions from the crowd. Occasionaly yes, but very quiet most of the time.

So, i liked it better than a sports bar, because no drunken patrons, and no idiot fans being borderline racist (this is while i was watching anderson vs sonnen 1). For me, It was like too much emotion at the sports bar, zero emotion at the movie theater.

Only the big events, like when Jon Jones or GSP would fight, it was a really cool experience, and being vocal was totally cool

There's a theater in the mall where I live that has an alcohol & food section... ;)
I wonder if they do this still...

I'm in Houston too. Know if any of them here show the fights?

I've seen a couple at the theaters here in the DFW area. Generally runs about $15 so even with my wife coming along it's cheaper than ordering the PPV at home and you get some of that crowd energy.

Pretty good time, really.

Not UFC, but a couple of boxing events, and I agree with the rest, it was sweet as Hell. Definitely would recommend it (although I suppose it would depend on the neighbourhood ).
