You missed an awesome fight. A guy from the regional circuit came on 40 hours notice and scored a major upset in his UFC debut, and looked great doing it. Was a good competitive fight too.

no, those listed odds in the OP are completely wrong. i have no idea where those odds came from.

wellmaker was deservingly a massive favorite.

Yeah when i watched the fight live, i believe Wellmaker was -500 and Ewing was like +380, so Wellmaker was a huge favorite.

Also had the audacity to beat the 1st-round finisher who the UFC was trying to build a name for

Plus Dana/UFC/fans are way too obsessed with finishes, like Brady vs Morales was impressive by Morales but a miserable fight with Brady just getting his very limited TDs stuffed and then cracked on the feet with nothing competitive happening at all

Caught some highlights and it looked very competitive. Definitely not a fight where you can write off MW esp given the short notice change. Would like to see them run it back with a full camp.

I was thoroughly impressed by Ewing. Dude is really skilled with his striking and also comes from wrestling

I think he would have finished Wellmaker had he had actual time to prepare, good thing he just recently finished a fight camp so was still in relatively good shape

I’ll be keeping an eye on bis future bouts he earned another fan in me that night

Edit* he has some really really good corner advice during the fight and in-between rounds. Coach was yelling all the right things in the midst of combat, not just screaming some bullshit, very technically sound coach

Definitely should have been FOTN. If Dana is going to insist on no more than four total bonuses, then it should take some really spectacular performances to deny a legitimate FOTN the bonus slot, and while the knockouts were all nice, Nickal didn't have an opponent capable of putting up a fight Saturday night and Prates' overall performance had some significant holes. Maybe Dana was just feeling too let down by Wellmaker to give him a bonus . . .

Given how little revenue goes to the fighters overall and especially to fighters lower on the cards, there's really no excuse for limiting the number of bonuses when fighters put on worthy performances. And if Dana doesn't want to see begging, the best way to reduce the incidence of fighters begging for bonuses without simply paying them much better show/win money is to publicly declare and hand out bonuses to all the fighters who put on worthy performances.
