ESPN: Mirko Filipovic, Wanderlei Silva to fight in 16-man RIZIN tournament

WOW!!!!!!!!! so awesome if this was 2006...well still kinda cool for Rizin

Also I wonder if i can watch this somehow in the US...man i really wish Rizin would let me pay them money to watch this live...please accept my money

Holy shit

Really hoping Wandy has been taking his vitamins lately. Cro Cop has been looking fuckin jacked

That suspension prohibits him from fighting in the UFC, but not from a RIZIN competition in Japan. According to RIZIN officials, Filipovic secured his contractual release from the UFC in order to participate in the tournament. On Friday, UFC officials did not respond to a request for confirmation.

Silva (35-12-1), 40, will be one of four tournament participants to receive a bye in the opening round. He successfully negotiated his release from the UFC in January.

How can somebody receive a by in the first round if the entire field will be full with 16 competitors?

Holy smokes. And yeah, how can Wandy and three others get a bye? It's late so I don't want to do math, but that doesn't seem like it'll work with 16 fighters.

USADA taking over in the states and meanwhile in Japan.... Lol

just comes short of fixing the tournament.

my math skills fail me on this. Or I just don't want to take the time. Sure. I'll go with the latter.

If there is a way to watch this I will be sure to do so though.

Glad to see most people on here not drinking the Jizin. If MMA ever wants to be legit bullshit like this should never go down

Is this an MMA match, last time I heard Rizin they are conducting a pro wrestling match where Josh Barnett and Kazushi Sakuraba are participating.

Hopefully they add king mo and rampage and ishii and jiri.

Wouldn't Mirko still be in contract with the UFC ?

Yeah it's odd.

He had a very loose contract with them... think he was actually released after failed test.

Anyways, he doesn't have much left in him and I'm a fan but think he should just retire so I doubt UFC will care to chase him back or sue.

Pride did K-1, MMA and Pro Wrestling in same show. Rizin is following that model.

The Sapp vs Akeebono was some kind of strange rules kickboxing match, no ground.

Duh he tested for PED
Actually they said at the press conference that USADA provided documents saying Cro Cop never failed, his tests came back clean. He admitted to using PEDs.
