Equilibrium (2002 Christian Bale Movie)

Law Abiding Citizen was an incredible movie, right up until the shitty ending.

A lot of people seem to feel this way. It's not a film I have any strong personal feelings on one way or the other. I thought it was an okay film.

It was a good film. A little overrated by most on here.

The concept of getting rid of peoples feelings right off the bat rubbed me the wrong way. You are never going to do that to a society. Everything plays on your emotions.

V for vendetta captured the essence of controlling people and there emotions in a far superior way than this movie did.

also the action scenes were MEH once you seen the cool gun trick the first time it didnt keep its thrill.

all in all it was a good to decent movie but fell short to the far superior Matrix

I need to re-watch that one.

Seemed cool, but not totally memorable.

I really like this film. It's concise and to the point and doesn't try to be more than what it is. And I really like the shots of the fight choreography, it's extremely engaging.

I'm shocked how well this movie holds up. I watched it on night-shift a few days ago with a coworker who'd never seen it before. He absolutely loved it, as I did after not seeing it for many years. Great film with lots of applicability in regards to ideologies at work in the world today. It's on Netflix.

It's one of my guilty pleasures. The Gun Fu fights make John Wick look realistic, but it's great fun.

I like it when I first saw it in 2003 I think. It has decreased value to me but that's because I have watched it maybe 10 times since the first.

The Cloths of Heaven - W. B. Yeats

Had I the heaven's embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light;
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

To be fair the film didn't say it was totally getting rid of peoples feelings just than the drug limited strong emotion greatly and we do actually see of course that those in control aren't on the drug.

I think it does have more depth to it than the Matrix did dramatically, that was really a pretty standard heroes jouney/romance with a lot of interesting window dressing which this film lacked as much of. That said its perhaps the deepest piece of sci fi ever made, for something that takes a similar kind of style mix of the mainstream and deeper drama a bit further I'd recommend Predestination.

For those that play Overwatch and have seen Equilibrium

Now, them wise it seems awesome, but it was too wrapped in shit action.

One of the best pure action movies of the last 20 years. It's got a simple story, with a heavy handed message, but it doesn't get bogged down by it too much, and just kicks ass from beginning to end.

I had high hopes for the director after I saw it(Kurt Wimmer?), but alas, he was a one hit wonder, as his followup "Ultraviolet" was just fucking embarrassing. Still though, he knocked it out the park with "Equilibrium", and it will stand the test of time.

seroquel and lorazepam made my sister like the people in the movie but also zombiefied her but she didn't care one way or another what was going on.

I enjoyed it the first time I watched it. But then once you get past the "it's cool" factor, and realise that gun kata is basically aikido with guns, it kinda loses its appeal.

Meh, it's ok. I actually found the 'gun kata' to be one of the more cringe worthy aspects in this film tbh. Yet another film that suffers from the 'style over substance' plague imo

The Matrix (for example) which I believe came out close to the same time -had a good blend of both style and substance and that leads to it being a much better viewing experience as far as the distant future dystopia type genre films are concerned. This film is overshadowed for good reason in all honesty because there were better options at the time.

I thught that the only real problem with Ultraviolet was the incomprehensible storyline, and the rumor is that Kurt Wimmer turned in a two hour cut and the studio wanted a 90 minute cut for distribution. So they hacked it up and that's why the story doesn't make sense.

The villain is also pretty ridiculous but I'm not sure I consider that a bad thing.

I thought the Gun-Kata was cool. You say style over substance, but if you remember, it was supposed to be a scientific way of fighting that was efficient in its use of movement and angles.
