Elizabeth Warren Releases DNA Test Showing "Strong Evidence" of Native American Ancestry

I guess after all Trump is more native than Pocohantis Warren! Who woulda thought that Pocohantis would be the one to prove it?!

Remember that dishonest weasels like Inga were claiming that she fabricated the claim that she had remote NA ancestry in order to benefit in her career (despite the evidence that such a claim conferred no benefit on her). Now that the evidence is in that shows she was telling the truth, instead of apologizing, they're doubling down on the claims or trying to distance themselves. Regardless of how one feels about the seriousness of the primary issue, anyone who cares about this country should be disturbed by that kind of thing.
Is the dishonest weasel you’re speaking of, you because that was not what she said

You’re not disturbed by Pocohantis going to the extra effort to prove her falsehood instead of getting on with the job of senator?

Jesus, you hacks have no shame. Brown dug up her old claim to have distant NA ancestry. Then Trump and others demanded that she prove it. Then she proves it, and you ask why she wasted time proving it! And other people are mad because she only proved what she actually said rather than the strawman. It's crazy to see.

Trump should take one. Honestly what does he have to lose? He hasn’t claimed anything

I’m going to start wearing a beaver hat. I’m far more related to Daniel Boone than she is native. I’m very proud of my heritage. My parents had to elope because my dad was too pioneersman for my grandparents

At the University of Pennsylvania Law School, she placed herself on the “Minority Law Teacher” list as Native American. She was listed in the faculty directory of the American Association of Law Schools during her time at Harvard Law as a Native America faculty member and Harvard Law openly promoted her as such. Important to note that pre-internet, that AALS directory was looked at by recruiters targeting minority hires.

She is listed as the recipient of a faculty award in 1994 which highlights her as a minority.

To be fair, in her application to Rutgers she answered "no" for admission to the school's minority student group. The same situation during her time at the University of Texas.

Looking at the totality of it, these recent DNA results don't paint her in a positive light. She should drop it.

I think this is a fair point. It was the Fordham Law Review which described Warren as Harvard's first professor who was a woman of color.

However, I don't think it changes the entire story here. The unmistakable point is that Warren's mother and father had to elope because Warren's mother was a Cherokee. And that story and that point are undercut by this DNA test.

Also, I'm not sure the entire thing is silly. Warren was appropriating minority status.

But that's just a family story that could very well be true. Warren's Mom seems to have believed she had significant native blood. She shared that, and her father's family disapproved. I really don't think that's a crazy story, certainly not as unbelievable as people are making it seem.

The real criticism here shouldn't be that she lied, because there's no proof that she knowingly said anything untrue. The criticism should be that it is super lame to make it an issue in the first place. It's like guys who are 1/4 Italian, have no connection to Italian culture, and they get an Italian flag tattoo and root for Italy in the World Cup. It's just lame.

I think Warren is a little bit pathetic. But I don't see any reason to accuse her of being nefarious. I think she genuinely believed her family folk lore, and so did her mother.

So, let me get this straight:
  • Elizabeth Warren, consistent with folklore of her upbringing, claimed to have trace Native American blood
  • Donald Trump and right wingers made fun of her, called her a liar, and chortled with racially-tinged jokes
  • Elizabeth Warren produced evidence that she does have trace amounts of Native American blood
  • And now the right wingers are taking a victory lap.
1. She did more than claim to have trace native American blood. She consistently made sure her ethnicity was listed as Native American rather than white in professional directories; she was celebrated as Harvard's first woman of color professor; and she claimed her parents had to elope because of white anti-Cherokee bigotry from her father's parents.

2. And then this flimsy DNA test, which did not compare her DNA to Native American DNA but to Peruvian and Central American DNA, found that she was as about as Native American as the average American white person, and possibly even less so.

3. None of this should matter much, but in a world hyper-focused on concerns of white privilege, minority status, and appropriation, it does.

We're psyched because we know we just clinched Florida, Georgia and every place else that likes to do the tomahawk chop.

Deal with it!

Well damn, when you put it that way, as a Cleveland Indians fan, I think may be obligated to vote for the Washington Redskin.

Fair point. Now she knows the truth and needs to cut it out. She is not and never was a minority.
