Was reading about this in that bizarre cases thread and wanted to see what ppl theorized happened to her.
Ill post the Wikipedia page but a simple google search will bring u more info about the details of that night. Posting on my phone or i would put the details up myself.

Basically there is 3 main theories to what happened.

1.Accidental drowning due to a manic psychotic episode that she suffered from her bipolar disorder. That would explain the bizarre behavior and movements she was displaying in the elevator during the last known moments of her life.

2. Murdered by someone who was out of frame in the elevator video, that she couldve been talking to when she was making those bizarre gestures. To get to the water tanks on the roof, she would've had to go through a door that has an alarm attached to it. Alarm was checked and wasn't broken. Only way it couldve been accessed would've been by an employee manually shutting it off.

3. Paranormal activity. Some people believe that she was being possessed or dealing with an unnatural force that led her to her death. People support this theory by mentioning the noterity of the Cecil Hotel, and that there was a tuberculosis outbreak going on in that exact neighborhood and the notorious Skid Row.
The tuberculosis test they administered was called the Lam-Elisa test. Very coincidental that her name was Elisa Lam.

No signs of foul play were found.
She was found 19 days later in 1 of 4 water tanks on the roof of the 15 story hotel face up nude with her clothes floating next to her.
Sand was on the roof and found on her clothes but oddly not on her shoes.
She was discovered after guests complained about the water pressure and smell and taste of the water.
Cops had searched the roof days before while looking for her with dogs but never thought to check the water tank which is some what difficult to access.(Some say it is, some say it isnt).

Elevator video is on Youtube.
Its edited with about 54secs missing. Someone says that they cut out part of it because she walks out of frame. Im sure thatll be argued here with allegations of a cover up.
The video is also slowed down for whatever reason. U can view the normal speed version on Youtube which makes her behavior look a little more normal but is still, very bizarre.

I should also point out that she rented a shared room with some ppl for the first couple days she was there, until she was moved after the guests complained about her displaying "odd behavior".
Also a rape and fingernail kit was done but the results were never released.

On June 15th 2013 the death was ruled an accident. On June 18th it was changed to unknown, before that was crossed out with error written next to it.

What's your theories?

It's a very creepy case, that's for sure. My theory? She was murdered by an employee. How else could she get up there? And accessing the water tank, taking the locked lid off, then the almost impossible task of replacing the lid while in there. Her phone was also stolen.

Also there was some type of anal bleeding but apparently it couldve been from the water??
Ill have to look up on how thats possible but i read that somewhere as well.

She almost looks like she is dancing. I'm a believer of the theory that she had a mental illness maybe combined with designer drugs. She broke onto the roof and decided to hop into the tank. She then knocks the door shut on accident or from wind. I don't see any evidence to suggest foul play

She had Bipolar Disease, that's not a theory...she was on medication

1. Dexedrine
2. Lamotrigine
3. Quetiapine
4. Venlafaxine
5. Buproprion

Toxicology
Venlafaxine was in her blood
Buproprion metabolites were found
Lamotrigine was found in trace amounts
No illegal drugs were found including the prescription Dexedrine which means that she hasn't taken any substances...in at least a couple of days. The MDMA metabolite is in your system for 3-4 days in urine, 90 days in hair, 1-2 days in blood.

The lid was hinged right? looks like 65lbs max maybe DYEL bruh?

it was a hotel worker that did it

Possible. It was also said that she walked in that day with two men who were on video but were never seen leaving on video. Explanation could be that they went out a fire escape for whatever reason.

Interestingly enough, amphetamines (dexedrine) are known to unmask or aggravate mania. To me this all points to a manic episode with signs of psychotic behavior. She could have taken the dexedrine before her trip to LA, fallen into a manic episode, then acted all cray during her stay at the hotel.

i think it was just a case of going crazy, honestly.

tho tbh, from everything about this case, im just disgusted at the idea of drinking dead ppl water.

This case creeps me out. I personally think it was some dark ritual by a small group of people. There was a Japanese movie made in 2002 called dark water that pretty much goes along with what happened. The elisa lam thing happened in 2013. Crazy shit man.

She probably tried lowering herself in holding onto the door and pulled it closed and just fell into the water.

Her clothes wet off because as the hours passed and she got more and more exausted she felt like the clothes were dragging ther down (that really happens to people).

She did all this while having sort of a mental breakdown from stress of traveling, being away from her family, possibly concerned with school. She was cracking up, had she been at home she would have been taken to the psych and dosed up but she was alone, in la.

That's that I think.

I could totally be wrong though.

Thats the most plausible scenario.
It really depends on how u view the elevator video.
She tries to hide in the elevator, then looks out of the elevator before ducking back in and then does some weird type of walking formation as if playing hopscotch.
Then steps outside and does some weird hand gestures and then looks like shes petting an imaginary animal all while talking to something out of frame.
So either she was very into the story she was telling to someone or she was out of her mind.

If u watch the video, at like 2:28 when she walks away, u can see a foot step into frame. Is it her foot or someone elses? If it is her foot, then its very oddly placed for the way she was walking.
You have to see the video to understand.

This is the most plausible explanation in my opinion, and I followed the case pretty interestedly for a few months while it was developing over at websleuths.

It also happens to be the official finding from the coroner.

Just a sad story of a bright and empathetic young woman who flew too close to the sun.

RIP Elisa.

I can tell you this about roof top alarms. Nobody pays attention to them. Everyone figures a worker went up there. If security came by they would have just closed the door and thought nothing of it.

I'm going with 'She lost her business' and climbed into the water tank to hide (not realizing it was a water tank).

Unfortunately, things like psych patients not taking their psych meds when in a psychotic state happens more often than not. Elisa Lam's case is just one that made news because of the bizarre circumstances and opportunity for a media heyday. Couple this with how uninformed the general public is with mental illness and you have all these strange theories coming out. Psych meds won't even necessarily prevent every single episode of mania/psychosis/depression so you can't 100% say she would have been better off at home. In fact, the point of antipsychotics in schizophrenics for example is to reduce the number of breaks...not to completely eradicate them. Who even knows if Bipolar 1 was her true diagnosis, the field of psychiatry is one of the most difficult in terms of diagnosis and treatment.

Also, she was on lamotrigine, not lithium. Lithium has been shown to better control mania while lamotrigine has been shown to better control the manic depression. She didn't have any detectable levels at the time of death but if she had been consistently taking one of the medications...Lithium studies have shown a longer delay between manic episodes versus lamotrigine.

I'm just saying that it was sort of a perfect storm of shit that led to her death.

If she got trapped in the water tank (for whatever reason), and it was a gravity fed water system, one reason I can think of that she was found naked with her clothes in the tank with her, is that she could've stripped and tried to plug the water system, causing guests to complain about no water, and hoping that somebody would go check on the water tank to see what the problem was.

I'm just saying that it was sort of a perfect storm of shit that led to her death.

That perfect storm is the selling point for any media outlet. People break and therapists/meds won't always control it. I find it more fascinating in the public's rationale of an event. People have imaginations far greater than reality and it shows in threads like this.

No alarm was triggered and i work at a hotel. If an alarm goes off, its a priority and you get a call from either the fire department or a security firm to see if the situation needs assistance.
Its possible she used a fire escape. She was on the 14th floor (her room was on the 4th).
But if u look up pics of the water tanks, its somewhat hard to get to. Its not like a pool where u can fall in. U have to be pretty dedicated to getting into that water tank.

You left out the illuminati and other theories but yeah...I think there was foul play for sure most likely murdered she was bipolar but I don't think someone on a bi polar episode would get naked, climb into a water tank and just die plus you have the edited elevator video which no one has been able to explain.

From what I understand, this is not a nice hotel. That said, the security systems and guards are not likely cream of the crop.

As far as the water tank is concerned; I think she intentionally climbed in. People (just like animals) look for small spaces to hide when they are afraid.

From the vid it looked like she was in the throes of a fatal pots overdose

Alarms were tested the next day or so when she was declared missing. The alarm would've gone off at the front desk and on the 15th floor loud enough to be heard a few floors below.
Only way it couldve been bypassed is by an employee.
She couldve taken the fire escape though.

I thought that the lid was too heavy for her to open, jump in, and close behind her, which is why the death was suspicious to begin with.

I heard that too, but that's probably just one of those things that gets tacked onto a story that makes it creepier, but isn't really the case.

I find it shitty that a water supply for a 700 room hotel, in a bad part of town, known to have housed at least 1 serial killer....wouldn't at least have a pad lock on it to keep people from tampering with it.

Well that sure does take the allure out of the story if she is able to simply jump into the water tank. Open and shut case, Johnson.
