Bruce Willis to Star in DEATH WISH Remake from BIG BAD WOLVES Directors

HbK0Nhb.jpg

The directing duo behind the Israeli revenge movie Big Bad Wolves have a Death Wish. Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado are in negotiations to direct Death Wish, MGM and Paramount's long-in-the-works remake of the 1974 vigilante movie that starred Charles Bronson.

Bruce Willis is attached to star in the remake, which is being produced by Roger Birnbaum. The original film was an adaptation of a novel by Brian Garfield and told of a man who goes on a revenge spree after his wife is killed and daughter sexually assaulted.

The movie struck a nerve with audiences who were facing the decade’s high crime rate and re-invented the career of Bronson, then 53. It also set off a long list of sequels. MGM has long tried to load a remake into its chamber only to shoot blanks. Joe Carnahan last wrote the script and was planning to direct but that was in 2012.

Eli Roth to Direct DEATH WISH Remake Starring Bruce Willis

Eli Roth has a Death Wish. The helmer behind Hostel and Green Inferno has closed a deal to direct MGM and Paramount's long-in-the-works remake of the 1974 vigilante movie that starred Charles Bronson.

Bruce Willis is attached to star in the reboot, which is being produced by Roger Birnbaum.

Roth is coming on board after the position was vacated with the departure of Israeli filmmakers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. The project, in its modern incarnation, initially had Joe Carnahan as director, but he left in 2012. Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski wrote the current script.

The original film was an adaptation of a 1972 novel by Brian Garfield and told of a man who goes on a revenge spree after his wife is killed and his daughter is sexually assaulted. The movie struck a nerve with audiences who were facing the decade’s high crime rate and reinvented the career of Bronson, then 53. It also set off a long list of sequels.

I really like green inferno. I guess in a way it was like cannibal holocaust, but with a social commentary against SJWs which is actually what made it interesting to me.

Hopefully, he puts some anti-SJW subtext in this. Otherwise how different is he going to make it? Like David Cronenberg's the fly or john carpenter's the thing are remakes but vastly different than the original (and of course being better than the originals).

No thanks especially if it is Eli Roth directing

I would certainly be willing to give it a chance because I think Willis would be good casting for Paul Kersey.

I remember being absolutely shocked at the rape scene as a kid. I hope they don't fuck it up and are able to recapture the power of the original.
Ya realistic rape scenes are tough to watch

This is one of the few remakes I can get behind.

Bruce Willis is cool but he's never going to be able to pull off that cold, calculated zero fucks given about taking a life that Bronson was able to pull off.

Like "the mechanic" with Jason statham....please, that was some shit. Nothing like the original with Bronson and Jan Michael Vincent....straight up pre air wolf.

I'm game. I doubt it will be nearly as anti-liberal as the original.

I'm actually looking forward to it.
I bet it's going to be gory as hell.

I'm so bummed out about this.

I like Eli. Have no idea what death wish is but will see this new movie.

I hope Charles Bronson's ghost haunt Roth and Willis for eternity.
When I was in high school me and my buds would always talk about how bad ass Charles Bronson was, how fucking hard and scary he was. I once said that he was the kind of man that was so ice cold that he would kill a mother fucker then kill himself immediately, just so he could go straight to hell and continue terrorizing the poor bastard in the afterlife.
