Hidetaka Miyazaki says Shadow of the Erdtree had to be big, because he wanted Elden Ring players 'to experience that sense of discovery and that sense of wonder' all over again
In an interview with PC Gamer, Miyazaki hints at how massive Elden Ring's expansion truly is.www.pcgamer.com
"Not only is the landmass likely bigger than you're expecting, it's more intricate than any existing part of Elden Ring's map, with cliffs and canyons that require puzzling out how you can reach one point for another. Anyone who tries to make a beeline for each map fragment is going to run into more than a few surprises.
"At the very outset there were a lot of possibilities, but one of the things that was determined very early on was that size," said FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki. "We wanted that sense of scale for this map, because we wanted an experience for the player that was going to match that of the base game. We wanted them to experience that sense of discovery, and that sense of wonder and exploration again. We needed a map that was going to uphold that and bolster that." "
I never played a game world that continually blew me away in that sense of discovery. That was probably my fav aspect of ER. I'm glad they are trying to replicate that.
Godspeed my friendStarted up a fresh play through for the DLC and did some derusting on the Tree Sentinel outside of the starting zone. Took me about 10 tries before I found my rhythm and downed him. Nothing more satisfying than an overpowered enemy swinging and missing helplessly while whittling it down.
God I missed this game.
I love Bethesda games for the exploration too, but you're right, Elden Ring also gave you very meaningful loot to find more often. Miyazaki is the goat!Couldn't agree more so glad to read this. The thing I loved about ER is exploring almost always felt worth it. A lot of other games having exploring which can be pretty decent but you don't ever need any of that junk they give you because the game can be beaten without just as easily. In ER the things you get can help you and be very useful in future fights.
Not watching it but Vaati posted a 30 minute hands on impression.
Agree, def not watching lol. You want little to nothing spoiled here. I'm going in as blind as possible, so pumped!!!!!These are like the absolute worst game to spoil. So much of the enjoyment comes from the exploration of the unknown. No way I’m watching any of these previews and I’m probably going to have to block certain words from social media.
Yeah I saw Oro and Dist playing it. Didn't watch though. One of the twitch nerds played it early and is streaming a recording.

I originally got Elden Ring because I love big open world games. I didn't know what I was getting into but it completely changed the way I look at games.Yea I like Bethesda games for that as well. Especially FO games were really fun going into abandoned buildings and things like that. ER elevates that level of exploration IMO.
I took a peek at Oros stream because he was the first to go live with it. Didn't watch too much, just enough to get my dick hard. We are in for a treat, gentleman.Yeah I saw Oro and Dist playing it. Didn't watch though.
I'm still trudging through Fallout 3 but I better speed it up so I can get an ER character going soon. I love the game but it's such a time suck.
Yeah it sounds like a huge expansion and releasing it in the summer is perfect. Can't wait to get lost in it for a few months.I took a peek at Oros stream because he was the first to go live with it. Didn't watch too much, just enough to get my dick hard. We are in for a treat, gentleman.
