DC came in too emotional, Jones did surprise him with that first takedown but the rest were when DC was gassed and even then he couldn’t keep DC down. Jones had a huge size and leverage on DC so it’s not surprising the taller bigger wrestler would take him down.

When you factor in grappling, you have to consider size and strength as well. Jones examples of his mma grappling is in a lower weight class vs fighters that are smaller in size and also not as strong as the fighters at HW.

Wrestlers are generally short for their divisions and being shorter never really stopped DC from slamming dudes on the canvas when he was a Heavyweight. Jones has taken down every single person he has fought beside Jake O'brien (he didn't attempt to take him down) and Santos (he only tried once for whatever reason). The fact of the matter is he did take DC down 3x and DC is a highly credentialed wrestler. Gane started out in muay thai and got taken down 4x by Ngannou. Gane has not faced a wrestler. Lot of question marks coming into this one. Can Jon wrestle as good as he used to? Will he try to wrestle? Can Gane defend his takedowns? I would have much rathered see Gane fight Blaydes than Tuivasa.
Also you don't out all the weight you cut back on either.
The team aspect isn't such a big deal. Jones has high fight IQ. He was always the type that could train himself and he was doing so most of his career and just getting coaching and sparring work from Jackson-Wink. It was well known that people would barely see Jones training at the gym and he would just come in to spar most of the time. Jones was doing a lot of training on his own.
