Economy Eggs Are Now $8 for 18

Highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu, is spreading across the U.S., forcing farmers to destroy nearly 280 commercial and backyard flocks in 32 states since January.

"More than 28 million laying hens have been culled as a result of the bird flu — that's nearly 9% of the total flock," according to Karyn Rispoli, an egg market reporter at commodity research firm Urner Barry.

Per pound they're probably more than lobster at this point.

I'm not even particularly crazy about them as a food item (such as with ribeye cuts of steak), but the nutritional value is sky high and they're a convenient way to bump my protein intake up without ever making me feel lethargic or stuffed.

I just bodied a half-dozen 30 mins ago, with 6 bacon strips.

Record level of Bird Flu. 49.5 million egg laying chickens have been either killed by the bird flu, or culled to try and stop the spread of said bird flu

Supply goes down, prices go up. Really sucks when it's such a low cost protein. Expensive cuts of beef price go up I don't worry as upper middle class can afford it anyways, but this shit hits everyone and especially the people trying to eat healthy for cheap while avoiding caving and just going to the dollar menu to keep their kids fed.

I don't have time now, but does anyone know what the egg price shot up to in 2015 when we had almost this bad of bird flu? That should help give some context to this

You know the 'bird flu' stuff is bullshit right? They give one animal a PCR test - the same fraudulent test they used during Covid to boost cases and churn out false positives by using a CT of 40 - and if it returns a positive result the entire flock is killed despite having no symptoms of illness at all. It's literally a bureaucratic slew-of-hand that allows them to destroy the food supply at their leisure. All they need to do is send a bureaucrat to whichever farm they want to destroy, swab some animals, set the CT to 40 for guaranteed false positives, and then order the entire farm be killed.

Tell me you don't have connections with the farm community without telling me

Nah, I know farmers that lose 20% of their birds suddenly and then test positive for bird flu so they off the rest to try and save the birds they have at a different location. This isn't just otherwise happening on healthy bird farms.
