Eddie Alvarez not fighting until he gets a new deal.

There's not a single fighter in the UFC facing McGregor, that hasn't lost.

This man disagrees.

Eddie is a real good fighter. UFC, Bellator, and Elite XC champ. He's a beast. To bad Conor destroyed him. I really like the lad.

Good for Eddie. I hope they can come to an agreement quickly.

Good for Eddie? Why? He had a contract with the UFC for a certain number of fights at a certain pay. He agreed to it in writing. Now he suddenly thinks he's worth more and is "holding out" for a new deal? It doesn't work that way. He needs to man up and finish the last fight on his contract and THEN renegotiate a new contract.

I imagine this is to put the message out there to the UFC, but it's disappointing he's on the shelf until he gets what he wants, and it sounds like negotiations aren't moving. Poirier and Diaz are both good fights for him that make sense.

I don't get it.
He has ONE fight left in his contract.
Fight once and he will have a much bigger bargaining power (he can walk out if he doesn't like the deal).

I really don't understand how not fighting helps him.

Because if he loses then they can just cut him without paying him.

It's standard for fighters to look for a new contract when they've one fight left on the old one.

while I agree with you in sentiment, I don't agree that this is "all of a sudden".
When he agreed to his contract, that was probably good money. But with the increase in everyone else's contract, he might be undervalued now.

Again, I agree he signed the paper and in this case it is one fight only, but what if it was 2-3 fights? that could be one more year making less than he should... and in their case (top fighters) that is a lot of money, so I see his point.

but time goes always against a fighter (they don't get any younger and the window is short).

He's leveraging his current position, he's a top 5 fighter coming off of a spectacular win & knows he's in contention with loads of good fights for the UFC to book. If he doesn't use his leverage currently to get a new contract & loses his next fight then his bargaining power goes down during his next contract negotiations.

You guys make good points.
I stand corrected!

Love this attitude even if wrong. It gets the ppl going

Eddie fucked up by getting steam rolled by Conman in an entended domination.

I don’t think he can recover from that humiliation to casual fans and UFC feels the same way.
I still can't figure out what he was doing. Did he think he was gonna one hit ko Con after tko'ing Hafael? He needed to get on his bike and take that fight into the champ rounds and try to grind Con down, only way he could have won .

Unless he is getting completely shafted by the original contract, he should stay with it.

We found out who the better fighter was after the trilogy.

Yeah, but you're ignoring how gameplanning affected the outcome of the fights. Cain fought completely differently in the second fight and that's why he won.

No, it works EXACTLY that way. His contract doesn't oblige him to fight. He's not a slave.

If he's not happy fighting for his current wage he's well within his rights to hold out for more money.

The UFC doesn't have to give it to him, but I suspect they will.

Eddie wants easy fights or an undeserved title shot.

So basically he is afraid he won’t perform in this last fight. So he wants some sort of guarantee now.
