I'm watching

Can't believe Tonon lost, I feel like Simoes definitely used unfair tactics during OT. Grabbing Tonon's fee (hooks) before the rounds had event started and giving him an unfair advantage to escape.

Did anyone else see that ?

Gordon Ryan, the late replacement, in the finals wow. against winner of Rustam Chsiev and Matheus Diniz

That's the problem with the rules. Rewarding escapes from an artificial position, or submissions from there, encourages that kind of behavior. Have you ever done specific rolls in the gym? Starting from the back or the mount?

Same thing happens. Some guys want to win, no matter what, and some guys want to play the game fair. A far less skilled guy can take advantage of a more skilled guy in those situations. That's the main reason I'm not a fan of the OT structure.

Yeah, the OT doesn't seem to have specific rules regarding starting positions/starting submission holds and can vary from what I've seen. During all other matches the OT rounds began with each man starting from a rear naked choke whereas the final [Ryan-Chsiev] there was one point where Chsiev started from the arm-bar position which Ryan escaped.

I've done specific rolls in the gym where each partner starts from a set position so I'm familiar with this kind of drill, just seems like Simeos cheated a little. It is what it is I suppose.

I think this will get fixed over time as they tighten up the rules on the OT. Right now it's still a little experimental.

They just need implement false start penalties and get strict on them -- something like the first false start is a warning/restart, and the second one is a DQ.

On the same hand it looked like Gordon started with Yuri's arm in his hooks which lead to his tapping.

I'm not complaining really and I still think the tournament as a whole was great, there's room for improvement in the OT department but I think that'll come in time. The general structure of EBI is solid as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't get a chance to watch last night - is the replay available on fightpass?
