Opinion Easy solution to the housing shortage

I mean, they easiest solution is the boomers die and free up a ton of real estate.

Can't they just progressively tax each house a person (or company) owns?

So your first house has very low taxes, because you need a place to live.

But of you own a second house, it's taxed a little higher. A third house is taxed even more, a 4th house even more than that, and so on.

That way more people can afford a first house but if they want to keep using homes as income properties then at some point it no longer makes economic sense.

You wouldn't have people trying to own 50 houses, nor would you have big corporations buying thousands of homes and driving up the prices.

What would be the drawback?

This will just cause rent prices to rise

Hey!! Own 4 houses. SCREEEEEEW YOOOOU.

My first two houses took 7 and 9 months of repair/remodeling and tons of $$$ to be habitable again. THAT is why no city/county is ever gonna adhere to your plan because if it wasn't for me those two houses would possibly remain dormant to this day.

i think people who have never owned a home will be shocked if/when they do. We had to replace two different HVAC systems in our rentals in one summer. that was not cheap. And i still need to replace the water heater and hvac in the home i live in as the water heater is 15 years old (about 5 older than expected lifespan) and the HVAC system is ancient and terribly inefficient. i wish a i had landlord to pay for this shit.

Easy solution to the housing crisis. Take everyone without a house and feed them to the people on SNAP. Two birds one stone, amirite?

Honestly I could get the 2028 republican nomination with that platform.

Your talking to people who want landlords to eat these type of costs with no way of recouping the money or raising rent. They're not serious people.

Don't even get me started on dumbass tenants. I had one that called me because the pipes were clogged in the house. I asked how did that happen and they said that they were peeling potatoes and putting the peels down the drain. I was amazed at how stupid they were and I wanted to tell them they should call a plumber themselves or move out

Yeah I dunno how people do it. Props to you guys. Id just sell the properties recoup the money on the sale and let these people live on the streets.

No it wouldn't. Because everyone can rent and buy from people who only have a 2nd house. That will keep prices low. Someone with a 20th house can't rent it out as cheaply, so they'll have trouble finding tenants, and end up just selling the house because it's not worth having that many houses.

You don't own an rentals, do you?
