also colder the onion the more difficult for the chemical to get to your eyes through diffusion.If you place a wet paper towel next to your onion while cutting, the wet paper towel will absorb the chemical instead of your eyes. Now THIS is a tip you can use.

That is a good tip and works with one or two onions... But those big Spanish onions you get in kitchens, when you're a Jr chef and have to cut an entire sack, its like being maced... And its something you never get used to like chilli either...
