Duterte: China not invading Philippine territory

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 22) — President Rodrigo Duterte said China has assured him that it will not invade Sandy Cay, which is Philippine territory in the disputed South China Sea.

Duterte's statement is the first confirmation from the government that there are Chinese vessels in the disputed waters.

Sandy Cay is a sandbar located 4.6 kilometers west of Pag-asa Island, which is 505 kilometers west of Palawan.

President Duterte said the statements of Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio that Sandy Cay was "being invaded by China" were untrue.

"Di naman totoo yung sinasabi ni (Carpio) [What Carpio is saying is not true]," Duterte told reporters late Monday in a news briefing.

"They are just there, but they are not claiming anything. I have that assurance na hindi 'yan sila mag-occupy anything [I have that assurance that they will not occupy anything]," he added.

The President's statement comes after Carpio said on Saturday that the government should protest the presence of Chinese vessels reportedly blocking Filipino fishermen at Sandy Cay.

"Sandy Cay is a Philippine land territory that is being seized (to put it mildly), or being invaded (to put it frankly), by China," Carpio said.

Carpio was part of the official delegation that presented the Philippines' case against China to the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.

Duterte said Chinese fishing vessels in the area are free to enter the waters of Sandy Cay.

"Free for all 'yan [It's free for all]," he said. "Free for all because it's claimed by them. It's claimed by us."

Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, a staunch critic of the President, had cited sources "inside the military who told him that China has deployed vessels up to five nautical miles away from Pag-asa Island since Aug. 12.

The Chinese vessels included two frigates, one coast guard vessel, and two large fishing vessels along with militia, Alejano said.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano did not confirm or deny Alejano's claims, but said the "presence of ships alone does not mean anything."

Amid calls for the government to file a diplomatic protest, Cayetano said, "Nagrereklamo pa rin tayo [We are still protesting], it's just that we don't announce it and we don't tell you how we do it."

Meanwhile, Duterte denied reports that Filipino fishermen were being blocked, adding that the Philippine Navy is escorting local fishing vessels.

Carpio and the Philippine team argued that China's "nine-dash line" maritime claim, a purported historical boundary that covers 85 percent of the South China Sea, encroached into the Philippines' 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone.

In July 2016, the tribunal ruled in favor of the Philippines.

Philippine President’s Son Accused of Smuggling $125 Million Drug Shipment From China
By Kyle Encina | September 8, 2017

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s son Paolo is being accused of having links to a crime syndicate responsible for a seized drug shipment from China worth $125 million based on his “dragon-like” tattoo.

The Duterte administration has been criticized by Sen. Antonio Trillanes, who now claims that he has evidence to support Duterte’s connection to drugs.

Trillanes insisted that Paolo was part of a criminal syndicate due to his tattoo that contained secret digits, according to Reuters via Business Insider. The senator even tried convincing Duterte’s son to have his tattoo photographed so that the hidden numbers could be decoded by the DEA in the United States, but the 42-year-old strongly declined saying, “No way.”

While Paolo admitted that he does have a tattoo, he refused to describe it and invoked his right to privacy. Trillanes then moved on to question Paolo’s bank account but the president’s son quickly dismissed the question as he considers it “irrelevant.”

However, the senator wasn’t willing to back down on his allegations as he presented another article of evidence of Paolo’s alleged links to drug trade. Trillanes presented the Senate panel with pictures of the Philippine president’s son standing beside a businessman while a shipment, believed to contain drugs, was behind them.

Duterte’s spokesman, Ernesto Abella, dismissed the photographic evidence citing it as mere “propaganda that can be used and misused.” According to Rappler, Abella criticized the senator’s evidence saying, “What does the picture prove? It’s different when it’s in the court, there’s really documentary evidence.”

Even the Philippine leader’s son brushed-off the allegations, which he deemed as “baseless” and adding, “I cannot answer allegations based on hearsay.” Paolo revealed that he was ready to face the “malicious allegations” since he has nothing to hide.

President Duterte himself was confident enough in his innocence to state that he would resign if critics could prove that his family was connected to any form of corruption. Duterte has been heavily criticized for his adamant stance on ridding the country of drugs even if it meant using lethal force to do so.

Duterte to give guns and housing to surrendering communist rebels.

DIGOS CITY – President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday urged New People’s Army rebels to surrender and help protect the country.

The President’s call might have betrayed his projection of how the peace talks with the rebels would go even if he had pursued it.

“I have a proposal to the NPA. Surrender, I will make you soldiers of this Republic, just Cafgu (Citizens Armed Force Geographical Unit) for the moment,” he said.

Duterte said NPA rebels who would surrender would be given firearms.

“But I will give you a gun to protect the Republic of the Philippines,” he said.

Duterte said there will be no precondition for the surrender.

All rebels had to do was to go to a mayor or go directly to the military to yield.

He said aside from guns, surrendered rebels would also be given houses.

He said her daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara, has a housing project in Tugbok district in Davao City.

WATCH | Duterte: I carry an ‘unlicensed’ gun in case I need to engage in a duel with ‘boastful but coward’ Trillanes

http://www.interaksyon.com/duterte-...in-a-duel-with-boastful-but-coward-trillanes/

MANILA, Philippines –- President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said he was carrying an unlicensed gun in case he engages in a duel with his leading critic, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, a former mutineer.

Gadala gyud ko kay di man ni para sa kontra, naa man daghan man ko dihang security, kanang mag personalay ta’g atubang ba,” the President said in his speech during the celebration of the 17th founding anniversary of Digos, Davao del Sur at the City Gymnasium.

[I’m bringing a gun, not for my enemy because that has already been taken cared of by my security, but in case we face each other.]

Describing Trillanes as a boastful but coward person, Duterte said he would not bring a gun with him if only the former Navy officer and member of the Magdalo Group that staged the 2003 Oakwood mutiny would face him squarely.

Hambugero, talawan man na. Sus, kung ako ma engkwentro ana, bakit naman ako nagadala og baril?” he said.

The President showed a gun tucked in his waist during his speech and said that the weapon was not licensed because license wasn’t needed to kill a man.

Way lisensya ni ha. Dili man kailangan og lisensya para mopatay og tawo,” said Duterte.

Dismisses Trillanes’ allegations against son as ‘garbage’

The chief executive also told soldiers that they could challenge Trillanes to a draw if the senator would digrace them, just like what the lawmaker allegedly did when the Senate investigated former Department of National Defense chief Angelo Reyes over his alleged receipt of P50 million “pabaon” or send-off money when he retired as Armed Forces chief.

Putang ina ka, lumabas ka diyan, draw tayo [Son of a bitch, get out of there, let’s have a draw)],” Duterte told soldiers on what they should tell Trillanes.

Trillanes berated Reyes during the January 2011 Senate inquiry. The following month, Reyes committed suicide. Trillanes said that while he had learned a lesson from what happened to Reyes, he was not regretting what he did during the probe.

Duterte’s renewed attack on Trillanes came a day after the senator, during a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, said that he had received information from foreign intelligence agents that the President’s son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, had a tattoo on his back that allegedly proved that he was a member of the Chinese drug triad.

“Putang ina ka, lumabas ka diyan, draw tayo (Son of a bitch, get out of there, let’s have a draw),” Duterte told soldiers what to do if Trillanes pushed them against the wall, just like the way the senator did during the investigation of former Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes.

The President said he was bringing a gun not to protect himself against his enemies, because he is already has lots of security to take care of that but in case, Trillanes would agree to a draw.

Imagine any US president saying "Puto" or you Son of a bitch againts any US senator.

Jesus.

So that's what this whole damn thing was about. Duterte really is Trump in Turbo Mode. It's all bullshit populist rhetoric with the true aim of enriching himself and his family.

Not really even in the same ball park as Trump,

Just see the post about Duterte challenging an opposition Senator to a duel and practically calling him a son of a bitch at the same time and on another event made a joke to the military that if ever they where ask by the senate to testifiy in an iquiry and Sen. Antonio Trillanes harass them he said that the soldiers can just shoot the Senator.

Now imagine if Barak Obama or Donal Trump have said that.

imagine Trump saying "John McCain should just shot up he should blow that Tumor out of his head".

I can see some more Trump supporters resign if he gets to that point maybe even the Vice President.

Trump has suggested that people with guns can take care of the Hillary problem and has told police it's okay if they rough up suspects.

Yeah but not as direct as outright challenging a senator to a gun fight and outright telling the soldiers to shoot a senator those threats are more direct.

President Duterte is no longer interested in acquiring refurbished military equipment from the United States following the crash of one of the helicopters bought by the government.

The President claimed that China appears to produce more quality weaponry, citing the efficiency of the sniper’ rifles recently donated to the country’s Armed Forces.

“I will no longer buy secondhand helicopters from the Americans because the two–the three– one of the two crashed. What’s happening to these Americans? And we paid for that,” Duterte said in the Visayan dialect during his visit to government troops in Marawi City last Monday.

The President said he prefers to buy brand-new equipment for the military to boost their counter-terrorism capability. He said the military goods will be sourced from two countries, without identifying them.

“For me, everything has to be brand-new. All the planes and helicopters will have to be brand-new. Your guns, I want just one source for it. I’m not going to mention what country it is but it’s just two–two countries,” he added.
