during the dustin poirier-bobby green fight at ufc 199, dustin dropped bobby with a 4-punch combination that immediately reminded me of chris weidman's ko of anderson silva in their first fight-

what stands out to me is the flurry of punches alternate- left side, right side, left side- until doubling the left, which results in a knockdown (or in weidman's case, a ko). (i realize weidman's pattern is left hand, right hand, right hand, left hand, but from silva's perspective, the strikes are coming from opposite sides until the final one)

both green and silva 'roll' with the punches, moving their head/body in the opposite direction to avoid, or at least minimize, the damage. doubling up on one side not only catches green/silva off guard, but also catches them leaning into the punch, intensifying the impact.

anyone else notice instances of deja vu between 2 fights?

I thought the exact same thing, even the way they fall is similar

As you stated, the pattern is different but good catch TS. Thanks for providing GIFs too.

At least Bobby Green tried to defend himself when the flurry came, Silva gave no fucks and paid the price...

I was hoping you were going to talk about the doubling up on one side. They're used differently, but both are the reasoning behind the combination being a success.

Whats up with the text, are you God?

This is why I cringe when MMA fighters try and put on a display of boxing skill with showboating in mind, especially a defensive showcase. They're trying to imitate their heroes and failing hard in front of the world.

I noticed the doubled up left hand also. MMA fighters generally don't throw consecutive punches or combinations from the same side so they're surprised by those incoming punches when they do come. They need to get some real boxing coaches in the sport, there's few that are.

He's bold to do that. Bold-Man.

Damn, nice catch. That looks nearly identical.

Good call. Reaching left hook, on the button.

White guy KO'ing a black dude who is taunting and clowning like a cocky fool. Very similar!

I'm a Poirer fan but his post-fight "THIS IS WHAT I DO TO EAT!" and "I'VE GOT MOUTHS TO FEED" rants make me cringe a bit.

i dont know if its the boxing is so bad. i mean obviously their boxing wont compare to even a low end pro boxer.... but thats cause mma boxing is totally different from the small gloves to the threat of the takedown, elbows, kicks, knees etc. so yea i guess even some simple boxing techniques will catch guys sometimes

All I know is I fuckin loved it. Taunting is fine, but Green does it more than he fights. I was getting sick of it, always shaking his head every time he gets hit. Shake your head to that!

Anyone have a gif of Green getting hit with that spinning heel kick while acting a fool against Barboza?

yeah i was getting annoyed in the barboza fight. ok, maybe those shots werent hurting you, but you definitely werent putting a hurting on your opponent.

Bobby fought like an idiot. He did NOTHING right in that fight.

Except the LWs looked a helluva bit more technical and well balanced. Aside from losing sight of his positioning/distance, Bobby's hand placement was on point, at least when expecting a southpaw punch and not Dustin doubling up with a shifting left hook lol.

Always a fan of the Diamond, really happy with his LW run. He seems to have made huge strides striking wise. I think we'll see more stance shift strikes in the future.
