Poirier was on vacation in Jamaica when Colby gave his typically tasteless callout of “Diamond,” and didn’t waste much time on a response. “Bombaclot!” he wrote in one tweet. Another since deleted tweet read “Maybez fight a welterweight contender?”

“It’s cute,” Poirier said when asked about the callout by Androl. “It’s all good. It is what it is. People want big fights. That’s a big fight. He wants a big fight. Obviously, he’s not in line for the title fight. He lost twice to the champ so he probably needs a few more wins, but I would think if you want to get back to that strap, you’ve got to fight welterweight contenders.”

“It’s working for him,” Poirier replied. “He’s got people talking. You’re asking me about him. But it’s just not my style. That’s what I dislike about the sport nowadays.”

As for that other big fight floating around, Poirier confirmed he was still angling to fight Nate Diaz and that a summer return was when he thought a fight was going to happen.

“Yeah, Nate Diaz is a fight I want,” he said. “I’ve been watching him and his brother forever so it’s exciting for me. The matchup would be fun for the fans. That’s more likely than the Colby fight.”

He also revealed that he was still unsure about what weightclass he’d end up at in the future, with both 155 and 170 being options

“I don’t know what I’m doing, if I’m going to welterweight, if I’m staying at 155, we’ll see ... it is what it is,” he said. Later he added “It’s just ... I can still make 155, it’s just how I want to spend my days. Like, if I want to be in camp dieting hardcore, or maybe living a little bit more of a fun camp where I can eat and feel like I can heal up and just have fun training, not hating the diet. We’ll see.”

“I’m not making any huge decisions right now. Just kind of playing the options I have.”

I mean, yeah. It's an way better chance at a W, and a more recognized star. I like Dustin but he should probably lay off the shit talking if he's not actually angling to fight Colby. Comes off weird otherwise. But yeah from a smart career decisions perspective it makes way more sense to take the Diaz fight.

The only people that don’t want the Nate fight are Colby stans, and Conor nut huggers. Both groups being beyond pathetic.

Why are the UFC dragging their feet on this? I can only assume it’s because they are trying to re-sign Nate. It is the last fight of his contract, and they don’t want him to walk.

Diaz offers more money and is a way more winnable/competitive fight.

The Colby/Dustin fight wouldn't make nearly as much money and wouldn't be that interesting to watch.
This fight also does nothing for Colby legacy/ranking wise and if he wants to get another crack at Usman, beating Dustin does nothing to get him closer to that.

I'd say Colby should fight the Luque/Belal 2 winner.
Dustin should either fight Diaz for the money or RDA if he wants to try going on another title run at LW.

Diaz.
For fuck’s sake, can we please see Colby fight a top ranked elite fighter, in their prime, in his own goddamn weight class?
I’m sorry, I just don’t understand anyone voting for the Colby fight. Colby needs to shut the fuck up and fight the Luque-Belal winner, or the Burns-Khamzat winner, or something like that. Stop calling out LWs unless he’s going to move there permanently. Nate-Poirier isnt quite the fight it was when they first tried to book it—but still a cracker, and makes a lot more sense to me than fighting Colby.

Colby is a dick and Poirier is free to say so. Colby calls out HWs like Werdum he will never fight and is chasing a LW because he is actually a draw. I will be curious to see how the Colby Mas fight sold and would like to see if Colby can draw in a fight where the opponent isn't the draw. Maybe Cejudo vs Colby? Two try hards would they sell 10k PPVs?

Diaz vs Dustin is a much better fight ….Colby needs to fight Burns or Edwards

Does anyone think Diaz stands a chance? Is he even a top 15 lw? Honestly pathetic for the number one ranked lw guy to call for this fight.
He talked about going to ww if even won the belt, now the number one WW calls him out and he won't fight him?
Weak as fuck

100% agree….Annoying that mma fans support Colby bullshit

I'm not a Colby stan nor a McNuggets nut hugger, but I'd rather see the UFC pay the actually talented fighters better than waste millions on a journeyman like Diaz. That bum can stay at home. I don't need to watch him fight ever again.
