Alcohol and sleeping aid, huh?
He should lose his driving license before he actually hurts someone with his chosen behavior.

Obviously I don't know if that actually happened in the OP but I do know something about Ambien. My wife was prescribed Ambien as a sleep aid about 5 years ago and she started having bizarre dreams and nightmares. One night, after about a month of taking it, I was sitting at my comp at about midnight, she walks into the room with a bottle of cleaner containing bleach in it. She starts spraying the bleach all over the carpet then she gets down on her hands and knees and starts scrubbing the carpet. I'm like wtf are you doing, that has bleach in it. By now the carpet is turning colors and I realize, she has been sleeping for 2 hours and there is no stain on the carpet, its the middle of the night. I look closely at her and get creeped out when I realize no one is home. She is dead asleep, carrying around house cleaners and scrubbing the carpet. After that, the doctor took her off of it. So anyone that thinks Ambien can't make you do stuff you are unaware of, I'm telling you first hand, it can and does. I have no idea if there were nights she stood over my bed like this.

I believe him.

I take ambien and man my roommates said ive done some hilarious shit over the years stumbling around looking for ice cream and watching movies while "awake" but spilling drinks everywhere etc.

Never had any recollection of these moments.

Just last night I took it and woke up and my beats head phones are out. Guess I was jamming.

I'm pretty used to it now and the window of weird is pretty small.

But in the beginning in sure I could be "awake" for more than an hour but no remember anything.

Also ambien texts are the worst.

Why did I text that bitch

I've done some weird shit on ambien and had no recollection, hell their is a disclaimer on the bottle that says people may sleep walk/drive.

I have tried Ambien. Among other things, I have made mac n' cheese while sleeping (left the burner turned on all night too), sleep texted people, and sleep-walked out to the mailbox naked.

That shit is problematic. In fact, I'm sleeping right now.

did you get new carpet or able to just get it patched?

I think its a joke this shit ass pill is allowed. You may sleep walk/drive? Lol wtf.

I had a person here locally on ambien take his kids in his car and crash into a truck. The car exploded in flames and he "woke" up, and was trying to get his kids out during the wreck.

Cops pulled him away and his hands were basically melted. His young Kids passed away and he had no recollection of why he did it. Charges were never filed either. Him and the wife go around anti ambien .(obviously)

possible, you cant remember anything on some of those pills

with so many people claiming ambien can do this shit, I am inclined to believe the man in OP's story

.22 is pretty drunk. I don't think you're supposed to use alcohol and any sleeping aid. If they find that he drank before using the sleeping aid, he's likely screwed.

Dude needs...

UPDATE: He beat the charge.

Mr Johnson was cleared of all wrongdoing in Newcastle Local Court this week after it was argued that he suffered “involuntary intoxication” because of the adverse reaction.
Experts had given evidence that he could not form intent and that the known sleep-driving condition related to Stilnox was an “automatic activity”.
Dr Yolande Lucire told the court that Mr Johnson’s case was “typical of many I have seen”.
“This is a typical case of sleep-driving that occurred at night,’’ Dr Lucire said.
“It involves purchasing alcohol in sleep, sleep-drinking, sleep-driving and total amnesia about all of it.
“Total amnesia is typical of Stilnox sleep activity.
“… This is a side effect of the drug as it involves an adverse drug reaction to a prescribed toxin, so I believe that it can be called ‘involuntary intoxication’.”
