Drug Smuggler Senteced to Death

She knew the laws and she broke them, no sympathy from me. Have you ever arrived at an Asian airport? There are HUGE signs everywhere clearly stating 'Warning: Drug trafficking is penalised by death'

The problem is this. The Mexican cartel recruits people against their will, and threatens to murder their entire family if they do not mule for them. Not sure if the same is present in the country in question, but it is very possible.

You'd have to be a screaming retard to try and smuggle drugs in a country with the death penalty.

So dumb.

She knew better and went through with it anyway, that's already been established, but it is truly comical to me how they have such stringent and over the top drug laws yet they allow child prostitution and child labor.

It's fairly obvious that the well being of the citizens is not a concern for their government because of the way they allow children to be treated. You can bet your ass the only reason these stiff drug laws exist is for some sort of monetary benefit. Any country that openly allows children to be raped and used as slaves does not have the interest of its people at heart.

We her claims of her family members being in danger of being killed true or false?

On her appearance alone, I would imagine there is some truth to it, but in the end it won't matter much.

I highly doubt she'll be executed though. I'm sure a deal will eventually be struck.

Which proves that giving the death sentence for trafficking is useless an counter-productive.

Punishment is too steep imo.

Lenghty jail sentence? Sure.

Death penalty? Extreme.

Like few have already pointed out...Youre looking to die if you ever try smuggling drugs into Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia.

I'm not sure what you are missing. You cannot be executed for drug smuggling. Here is the drug smuggling statute, along with penalties:

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/21/960

There is nothing in there about the death penalty.

You keep on citing this law, which is not a drug smuggling statute:

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/21/848

Read those carefully. If you don't understand, there isn't really anything else that I can do to help you. I'll just leave this alone now, so as not to hijack the thread entirely.

They guys from Cocaine Cowboys, John Roberts and Mickey Munday, could have been put to death under this law. They would be executed for drug smuggling as part of a continuing criminal enterprise.

Do you agree or disagree?

I disagree. I provided a link to 21 USC 848. Please read it.

The drug laws in those countries are stupid. Actually the ones in the U.S. are pretty stupid to. Stupid is as stupid does though.

You're right. That of course is why the payoff for a succesful trip is so good. The harsher the laws the bigger the money. In a sense the harsh laws are enticing more people to give it a shot.

I haven't even read the responses but I'm sure you got flamed for this post. Not many people can make logical connections like you.

lol. There would be less Od's if we used education instead of punishment.

Also drug related violence is clearly connected to the prohibition that sorrounds them more than the drugs themselves.

The harsher the law, greater the risk, the bigger payout.
