Nobody so far has managed to defeat Islam Makhachev, but one former opponent believes he now knows the key.

Has he not watched any Islam's other fights? Oliveira tried to take him down, Volk tried 4 times, Moises tried to take him down 3 times, Arman Tsarukyan tried to take him down 12 times.

Trying to outgrapple the best grappler in the division sounds like a terrible plan.

He said there were a few guys, not everyone, who have the skills to make a grapple-heavy game plan work against Islam.

Arman is the only person that actually tried to grapple Islam and had some success doing it.

Michael Chandler is another name that comes to mind. Powerful wrestler with good submission defense. Would be a tough fight for Islam if he had better fight IQ.

Volk had some success wrestling Islam in the 5th when he was tired.

Point is, put Islam on defense for once instead of trying to constantly defend on the feet.
