Not too bad , The Recent Planet of the Apes movies are the gold standard for me so on Planet of the Apes scale I'll say 8/10

Not a great film but I will give it a decent score because I enjoyed it.

Roughly a 7/10 for me , though I understand the Gripes.

I am a big Fan of Robbie and Skaarsgard . Skaarsgard to me was the best part of the Horribly campy guilty pleasure True blood , and the criminally underwatched Generation Kill . I left this film convinced that this guy is leading Man material and I think he would make a fantastic He-Man and it's a joke that Kellan Lutz is being considered to helm that , that kid is fucking terrible.

Anyways as far as this goes , the movie plays as part OrIgin Story part homecoming for the Main Character . Robbie , Skaarsgard and Samuel L Jackson aren't given the best material but they make it work. Primarily for me because I despise villains motivated by greed , especially when they are filled with slavers and poachers, so I found myself rooting for Tarzan and Jane. A lot of the bigger action pieces were CGI heavy but when they toned some of that down for other scenes , I believed that Skaarsgards was a beast of a man roughly 6 foot 5 250 ish in his film he was imposing and ripped , and I'm reminded he added 40lbs for this role.

I agree with this. Not a terrible film but not great either.

I wasn't disappointed but I went in with lower expectations after hearing it was getting bad reviews.

Tarzan in this movie is kinda like Vin Diesel in the F&F movies, where he's human but performs super-human feats. You don't ever feel like he's in any danger because you know he will do something ridiculous

I actually liked the gorillas in the movie. The movie theater I was in had deep bass so when they were pounding the ground, it just felt so powerful

I like Christopher Waltz but didn't feel like he had much to work with, he's supposed to be the villain but didn't come across as very evil

Weekend Box Office:

FINDING DORY Beats TARZAN; Spielberg's THE BFG Bombs

Finding Dory dominated the Independence Day box office, providing a little spark to a weekend that was lacking in fireworks.

The Pixar release swam to the top of the charts for the third consecutive weekend, picking up $41.9 million to bring its domestic total to $372.2 million. The follow-up to Finding Nemo should end the four-day holiday with another $50.5 million in receipts.

The July 4th weekend is traditionally one of the movie business’ biggest, but this national holiday suffered from a weak crop of new releases, as costly adventures such as The Legend of Tarzan and The BFG failed to excite audiences.

With a smaller budget, The Legend of Tarzan might rank as a hit. But Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow spent lavishly to update Edgar Rice Burroughs’ jungle king stories, shelling out a reported $180 million to produce the picture and millions more to market it.

Despite the high costs, the film did better than projected, earning $38.1 million for the three day weekend to take second place. It should make $44 million for the holiday, but that may not be enough to cover the massive budget. In its first weekend of international release, Tarzan pulled in $18.8 million from 19 markets, including South Korea and Russia.

The weekend’s biggest disaster was Disney’s The BFG, Steven Spielberg’s $140 million adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic. The story of a friendly giant (Mark Rylance) who befriends an orphan (Ruby Barnhill), got solid reviews, but was overshadowed by Finding Dory. It collapsed at the box office, eking out $19.6 million over the weekend and should earn a paltry $23.6 million over the four day holiday for a fourth place finish. It will rank as one of the biggest flops of the summer and of Spielberg’s career, raising questions about his drawing power after a decade spent making historical dramas such as “Lincoln” that are geared at older crowds.

One new release did score with audiences. Universal’s The Purge: Election Year debuted in third place to $30.9 million and should make $34 million over the holiday. That’s a solid return for a film that cost a mere $10 million to produce and another summer success for Blumhouse, the micro-budget purveyor of Insidious and Paranormal Activity. The two previous installments, The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy, debuted to $34.1 million and $29.8 million, respectively.

Might be a classic book, but I guarantee movie audiences had little to no idea what the movie was all about.

The BFG

Not one of Spielberg's better entries. It fits in that category of passion pieces missing the Mark ( 47 Ronan for Keanu Reeves , Battlefield Earth for John Travolta), it's nowhere near as bad as those movies but it feels very mediocre .

The Good

- The CGI is excellent , not a fan of Giants on CGI , I mean look how terrible Jack and the Giant Muller looked , the CGI here is a couple of notches above that, but it's also the reason this movie will bomb , CGI this good costs money.

- Ruby Barnhill , thetc actress that plays little Sophie has a thoughtful subtle traits which makes me believe she will be a good actress going forward , and Mark Rylance is able to salvage the fact that his character struggles with English and is decent in this.

The Bad

- It's very dull . It felt longer because it was pretty boring in spurts. I remember watching the Animated version of this and it's the same movie , both movies don't really inspire magic to me . Meh is my best description for this.

I wanna see Purge 3. The first one was meh but Frank Grillo had a fun role in the second one.

Tarzan looks fun but I'm in no hurry to watch it.

My 4 year old daughter is not interested in BFG for some reason unless there's dinosaurs. She disliked Zootopia because the lack of dinos.

They Cost 10 million and have found a niche audience, never seen any of them . This weekend alone will triple the Budget.

His last movie was Bridge of Spies. It was nominated for six Academy awards. Before that he made Lincoln. It was nominated for 12 Academy awards.

I never saw munich but I heard lots of people around here say it was great

but personally the last speilberg movie that I really enjoyed was terminal back in 2004

The Terminal . . . that's an odd choice.

But you're right about Munich. It's an incredible film. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out. I'd say it was probably his last truly GREAT film.

But I still enjoyed Bridge of Spies and Lincoln. Tin Tin had its moments.

I didn't see War Horse, so I can't speak to that one, but of all his other films made since Munich the only serious misstep in my opinion was Indy IV.
