From the trailers, synopsis to the cast and director, everything you need to know about the upcoming 2016 films are right here, as well as what films are opening this week, the critics' reviews and box office numbers. I will also constantly keep the thread updated with new trailers, pics and info when they surface.

THE FOREST

Release: January 8, 2016

Genre: Supernatural Horror

Director: Jason Zada (feature film directorial debut)

Cast: Natalie Dormer, Taylor Kinney, Eoin Macken, Stephanie Vogt, Yukiyoshi Ozawa, Rina Takasaki

Synopsis: A supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate – only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead that prey on anyone who wanders into the forest.

Rotten Tomatoes: 14% Approval Rating (7 out of 63 critics like it)

Consensus: The Forest offers Natalie Dormer a few chances to showcase her range in a dual role, but they aren't enough to offset the fact that the movie's simply not all that scary.

DIABLO

Release: January 8, 2016

Genre: Western Action Thriller

Cast: Scott Eastwood, Walton Goggins, Camilla Belle, Danny Glover, Adam Beach, Samuel Marty, Roberto Franco, Jose Zuniga, Diego Diablo Del Mar, Nesta Cooper and Tzi Ma

Synopsis: A young Civil War veteran named Jackson wakes up to find his beautiful wife kidnapped by a band of ruthless bandits. With killers around every corner, the lines begin to blur between who the good and the bad are, including Jackson. As a final gunfight looms for our hero and he is asked to risk it all to save the woman he loves, this action-packed western takes twists and turns that will break even the hardest of hearts.



Comments: Nice to see Clint Eastwood's son following in his father's footsteps in the western genre. Don't think this film will be good though. Great to see Camilla Belle again.

Rotten Tomatoes: 9% Approval Rating (2 out of 15 critics like it)

Critics Consensus: Diablo aims for an homage to Eastwood Sr.'s revisionist Westerns, but the result is pretentious and pointless.

Synopsis: Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the returning lineup of Ride Along 2, the sequel to the blockbuster action-comedy that gave us the year’s most popular comedy duo. Joining Hart and Cube for the next chapter of the series are director Tim Story, as well as Cube’s fellow producers—Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner—who will produce alongside Cube.

Synopsis: A comedic adventure that re-imagines Mark Twain's iconic literary characters of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer as grown men in current day. Petty criminal Huck Finn hopes to leave his criminal life behind when he is released from a stint in prison, but his lifelong friend, and corrupt cop, Tom Sawyer, has other plans. A PERFECT DAY

Synopsis: As Sophie and her seasoned colleagues Mambru and B race against time to save the water supply for an abandoned community, they must outwit pedantic UN bureaucrats, military factions and exploitative local criminals - all the while cleverly distracting Mambru's ex-lover Katya, who has flown in from head office to shut their mission down. A dead cow, an un-cooperative supplies store and an angry dog tied to the length of rope they desperately need: the team and their guide negotiate the seemingly simple task of extracting a dead body from a well, but staying sane proves to be the biggest challenge on this not-so perfect day.

Comments: Film looks forgettable but good to see Mira Sorvino again. Ana de Armas also starred alongside Keanu Reeves in the Eli Roth thriller Knock Knock.

KUNG FU PANDA 3

Synopsis: When Po's long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible-learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas.

On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel.

Synopsis: When four small-town losers stumble across an alien crash site containing an incredible battle suit, they soon find themselves responsible for the fate of the entire planet. With this new alien equipment genetically bound to them, and the government hot on their heels, the foursome have no choice but to work together as one to save humanity. All they have to do is learn to use a strange alien device meant for only one-person, train for a battle against an omnipotent enemy, and not kill each other in the process.



Comments: Lazer Team was mostly funded by a crowdfunding campaign that raised a record $2.48 million from 37,497 funders in a month on the Indiegogo site.
