Double knock down GIF

Is it Pride or wear and tear that has made him abandon his Sambo?
......

Mostly due age and inactivity after Pride shut down. His last few Pride opponents were easy (Zulu Jr, Coleman, Hunt) so he probably took things easy and didn't have the motivation to train hard. And his easy wins in Bodog/Affliction could have convinced him that relying more punching power was enough.

Easy? Relative the murderers row of heavyweights he beat, I guess those fights weren't as difficult. But I'm reluctant to call a fight against any of those guys easy.

He used to bounce in and out and naturally duck and move hos head when he punched. He had the best run at HW in the history of the sport, but this flat footed pot shotter is not the same guy. The old Fedor would have been in motion, not been hit clean, and followed up with explosive and relentless GnP. Totally different fighter. Style did not age well.
He still got hit a lot in Pride but had a better chin and recovery time.
Remember when fujita hit him, that was a mess

Zuluzinho was a freak show fight, just a morbidly obese man that shouldn't be fighting

I was there for that fight. It's hard to describe the swell of excitement in the crowd when Fujita rocked him. Earlier that night, Kazu Hamanaka pounded out a win over Nino Schembri and Daiju Takase submitted Anderson Silva. The Japanese crowd thought they were going to see a clean sweep AND an end to Fedor's streak.

So Mitrione's extra 20lbs make the difference in that exchange?

Looks like Fedor got clipped harder regardless, still helps having extra weight behind you when connecting.

Fedor has been keeping his lead hand low in his last two fights. If he had it up he wouldn't have gone down there.

Hands down is Fedor being Fedor. I wouldn't like to go on about how he should keep his hands up when he always kept them low and wrecked the living shit out of everyone. The simple fact of the matter is that he is weaker and his chin is shot.

Pretty much.
Fedor is small, short and ring old. He is basically insane to keep fighting and getting concussions.

No joke !?
A smallish HW who relied exclusively on speed, explosivness and power didn't age well once he lost those attributes ?

On a side note too, I wonder what makes people think they can fight and still take hits a 40+ like in their primes..
Not everyone is named Mark Hunt and fighters that have received a lot of abuse during their career ( including training camps not only ring/cage ) usually see their chin get drastically worse around 40..

Yep, but like you said his speed / reflexes and chin were on another level.
Now he is just a bar room brawler with a shot chin.

I hope he retires for good, no one even Fedor win against Father Time

Thanks TS, I missed it earlier and it's the one I wanted to see most. Have always liked Meathead, knew he could do it. That was shit was brutal as fuck. That 2nd to last hit ended him. The last hit stiffened him up like a woody in a room full of half-naked co-eds. KO by soul steal. RIP Fedor

First "real" knockout too.
For his health's sake I hope he retires.
He should have called it quits after the Maldonado fight ( and in my opinion should never have come back )

People are always glorifying good ole Pride days.
Pride Shogun, Pride Wand etc...
You gotta remember that Pride was a roid heaven.
Of course those fights were exciting and tough.
But you can't ignore the impact of juice of god.
Go ask Yoel Romero if you don't believe me...

Maldonado and Mitrione fights seemed like they could've been cakewalks if he could have gotten those fights to the ground early.

I remember Michkov and Voronov both commenting on the fact that for the 1st time Fedor wasn't serious with his fight prep prior to the AA fight ( just a few weeks while filming some BS telefilm in thailand ) ..
DIdn't do strength and conditionning for years either ( there is an old interview where Fedor himself talks about it ) apart from some dips/pullups/situps.. to "focus on technique "
Also I remember his right hand injury affected his grip strength alot on his own admittance..

It looked like he resorted on " God's will bar brawling " around the time he started to fight in StrikeForce.
Once he became a religious zealot he was inclined to bring up " God's WIll " all the time in pre fight pressers etc, and it looked like he threw any kind of gameplan by the windows..

Also could be linked to some nagging injuries/wear and tears we don't know about but this is speculation.
But I will say this too , in my opinion he wasn't enough physically fit to use his oldschool grappling heavy style after the Sylvia fight.
Dude struggled with Rogers on the ground, was outstrengthed a lot by BF, and held against the cage by Hendo.
I personnally struggle to imagine Pride Fedor being held by Hendo, even a TRT'ed to the max one...
Both his strength and power noticeably went downhill around the time he was 32-33, which is kind of a natural decline, but it was fastened by the fact that he didn't do S&C training, and worsened by the fact that these were the main features his fight style relied on...

I remember his coaches being frustrated.

He broke his hand(s) several times throughout his run too if I'm not mistaken.

The Monson fight gave me some hope, as he showed ferocious leg kicks. He never used them again, and totally could have against Mitrione.

He should have retired and stayed retired a long time ago.

I think losing half of his money on his second divorce has lead us to this horrible place.

I kept thinking that money must be the only reason why he's doing this shit to himself. Are you sure he's lost that much money in divorce?
