Have you heard of Karate Combat? It's new. They've only done two events.

It's full-contact karate with takedowns allowed (no groundwork, just the takedown + 5 seconds of standing GnP).

It is sanshou with mma gloves.

I'm not sure exactly how the rulesets stack up but I think Karate Combat has a different flavor to it. The action is fast-paced and the striking style is very much karate while sanshou sometimes looks like a boxing match with kicks.

They also did this weird thing for the first event where they edited the fights together after the fact to make them look like something out of a movie:

A guy I know was in a movie with Billy Blanks and Bolo Yeung. Which sounds awesome, until you actually watch the movie.
