In an interview with Best of MMA, the former champion provided some insight into why Thompson is nice within his interviews.

“With ‘Wonderboy’, it’s like he’s a super nice guy. But, I think he wants to let the jerk out, but he won’t. I think he wants people to like him too much, to let his real self out. I’ve seen real Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, when the cameras are off. He wants to be like me, in the sense of just let it all hang out.” Cruz told Best MMA. “But, I think he’s more worried about how people are going to view him.”

Breaking news: Public people are trying to sell you a persona.

He fights like wanderlei off camera.
Cruz doesn't understand tact or class

Thompson.... Guy is a class act. But going heel would be awesome. Trash Talking (WWE type Beef) is working for a lot of fighters these days.

I get what he means. It’s kinda like Jones but without all the partying and dumb shit.

I don’t think Thompson’s gonna be up here cussing, guys

Part of the reason is probably because he realizes there are kids in his gym who are looking up to him, and thus doesn't want to give them a bad influence.

Someone once said he seems like a youth pastor whose always running late for the church pizza party

Sage Northcutt acts like the Diaz bros off camera I heard.....

Dudes a choke artist, don't care about his off screen persona

Cruz is right. Thompson was raised with morals and respect and to make first impressions count and he can't break out of it

He was probably a nice guy until Weidman joined his family.
