Have you ever been a witness to Domestic Violence?

Growing up in The Bronx I remember seeing men hit their ladies a few times. Luckily I never saw it in my home. I saw it in public - I was too young to interfere or say anything. Once I became old enough to do/say something about it there are a couple of instances which stand out...

Do you have any examples?
Were you able to say or do something about it?

1) In college - my Jamaican friend (will call him) Mega had a beautiful GF. One time my roommate and I went to his crib off campus and walked in the open door. We could tell right away something was wrong - long story short: Mega was beating her with a cordless phone. He had her pinned down to the couch and was going to town. We grabbed Mega dragged him into the bedroom to calm him down and ask him what happened. Turns out she may have been banging one of the basketball players. She left him. Years later Mega went to jail for raping a girl at another upstate NY college. He denies it and says he was a victim of racism (not the topic of discussion). When I heard that it reminded me that back in college - a girl I was banging told me Mega was crazy because when she went to buy weed from him/ she went in his room and he pulled out his dick.

2) Late night in the subway across the tracks a guy was arguing with his girl. he smacked the shit out of her. She started crying but stood there and continued to argue with him. He smacked her again. I yelled across the track "I don't remember wtf I said". He looked at me like I annoyed him. they continued to argue but lowered their volume...A couple of minutes later my train came and I left.

Girl I work with just 3 days ago with one of the WORST black eyes I have ever seen in my entire life.

Her boyfriend, who also works in the same building, got black out drunk and KOed her.

Hes in jail luckily for him. I would destroy him if he dared show up here.

Nice to see you're back on your meds.

When I was about 8 in the middle of the night when we were asleep my dad decided this was the best time to tell my mom he got another woman pregnant and she was going to have the baby. Saw my mom bust a vase over his head and my dad started bleeding. Not sure how it reached this point but eventually my dad was bent over the kitchen sink doing everything he could to stop my mom from stabbing him in the stomach. It was so close and she only stopped because my sister was begging her to stop. I never said anything I just watched the whole thing.

Here's the really weird part. After the trying to stab my dad incident my mom leaves the house. I run to my room shove my head in my pillow and start laughing my ass off. I knew I was going to laugh which is why I ran because I didn't want people to see me laughing in a situation that clearly you shouldn't be laughing. My sister came to comfort me and thought I was crying I told her many many years later that I was actually laughing and she was just like whats wrong with you.

Yeah - This reminds me of 2 co-workers back in the early 2000s that came to work with back eyes. It was embarrassing to hear them tell the lies of how it happened. One said she was robbed. the other made up a big story about having beef with her husband's friend's wife and her husband's friend punching her in the face.

When i was 13 my mother and i saw a man beating the shit out of his wife outside. In the middle of the day on the street.
We caalled the police, some other people had already ran out to stop the guy.
My mom was a witness in court and all that.

LOL - do you usually laugh in other scary/crazy situations? I laugh when I am on roller coasters but I'm sure it's to cope with my nerves.

I once watched a not white guy yelling 'You want the fucking dishes done bitch? I'll fucking do the motherfucking dishes then." as he threw a bunch of plates and glasses of the 3rd floor balcony.

Old school pimps (some of the most knowledgeable guys on women in the world) always say not to interfere with that. Reason being, you're gonna have beef with the guy... The girl is going to eventually go back to the guy after everything blows over and they will both be your enemies.

HAHAHHA...
I walked into my building and saw the couple whose apartment was right next to the elevator arguing. She kept calling him a "little dick mothafucka"

This is why I pity boyfriends and husbands of female fighters. Why is the knee-jerk reaction always that the guy is abusing her? What if it really wasn't the spouse?

I don't know the particulars of your stories but was it obvious beyond a reasonable doubt that they were lying?

I saw a girl get leveled by a guy at a party in high school...I saw it but wasn't very close, and a crowd immediately gathered around them, I didn't get involved...

I saw the aftermath of a girl getting KO'd at a UFC event...I was walking in the hallway in the bathroom area for floor seats, and this girl was out cold on the floor...there was already a cop there, some guys were telling the cops this little mexican dude KO'd her...the girl was a hot blonde in a short dress, I'm guessing the guy was her pimp...I went about my business and after I went to the bathroom, they had closed off the entire area and there were a lot of cops and EMTs...about an hour later, I saw them both walking around the floor area together taking pictures with people, I was like WTF?! It was really weird...the girl definitely gave off an escort vibe...

LOL Oh man . . . where to even begin. I grew up with that shit all around me. Every time I snap and go to town on the guy lol. You think that's a good thing, right. But not really. The women getting beat will often get pissed off at you later for interfering, or at least that's been my experience. When I was younger this made me kind of understand why the other guys around wouldn't get involved and just said, "it's none of my business" but then I got older and now I just think the guys that stand around allowing it to happen are pathetic. I'll never be able to be like them and I don't want to be.

One case I knew was going to end badly. I mean they all are but this one was just fucking ugly and progressively getting worse and fast. I already knew one girl who got murdered by her abusive husband, and I said to the other, this is going to be you if you don't gtfo now. I wasn't wrong. Shit kept escalating and months later after I said that, I was there when he tried to murder her. What a good time that was. What an even better time going through all the court dates. Over and over having to go over every fucking detail of what happened. Fun. The guy tried to kill two people but only got like 2 years in jail. The system failed terribly there, and he's back at it. I hope he drops dead soon tbh, seems that'll be the only way he'll be stopped.

No - can't say with 100% certainty.
But - I can tell when someone is lying and embarrassed.
The one who made up the tory about her husband's friend sent me an email telling me she wanted to get with me.
Both of them divorced the guy with in 24 months of that happening.
