Have you ever been a witness to Domestic Violence?
Growing up in The Bronx I remember seeing men hit their ladies a few times. Luckily I never saw it in my home. I saw it in public - I was too young to interfere or say anything. Once I became old enough to do/say something about it there are a couple of instances which stand out...
Do you have any examples?
Were you able to say or do something about it?
1) In college - my Jamaican friend (will call him) Mega had a beautiful GF. One time my roommate and I went to his crib off campus and walked in the open door. We could tell right away something was wrong - long story short: Mega was beating her with a cordless phone. He had her pinned down to the couch and was going to town. We grabbed Mega dragged him into the bedroom to calm him down and ask him what happened. Turns out she may have been banging one of the basketball players. She left him. Years later Mega went to jail for raping a girl at another upstate NY college. He denies it and says he was a victim of racism (not the topic of discussion). When I heard that it reminded me that back in college - a girl I was banging told me Mega was crazy because when she went to buy weed from him/ she went in his room and he pulled out his dick.
2) Late night in the subway across the tracks a guy was arguing with his girl. he smacked the shit out of her. She started crying but stood there and continued to argue with him. He smacked her again. I yelled across the track "I don't remember wtf I said". He looked at me like I annoyed him. they continued to argue but lowered their volume...A couple of minutes later my train came and I left.
