PLEASE NOTE: I am not a person who thinks that white people should feel guilty for being white, (FUCK. THAT. SHIT.) but to live under the notion that life is the same for different races and cultures... (LOL) Racism is a real problem...etc, etc, etc. I would also like to say that the ultimate truism for EVERYONE is that...life is unfair. We are all going to die, which one would think may compel more people to come together to help each other out, but...that's not the case. I digress.

white privilege noun [ U ]
uk /ˌwaɪt ˈprɪv.əl.ɪdʒ/ /ˌwaɪt ˈprɪv.əl.ɪdʒ/
fact of people with white skin having advantages in society that other people do not have:

The concept of white privilege explains why white people have greater access to society's legal and political institutions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently had a lively discussion (to put in mildly) with an ultra conservative GAY man (lololol) at a social function related to my girlfriends work who proclaimed that white privilege isn't real.

My retort was that the POTUS is Trump...and he lost his shit. (he is a Trump supporter of the highest *agnitude)

One of my contentions was that a black candidate would NOT have gotten away with "grab them by the pussy" nonsense, etc, etc, etc.

He then replied by saying that Obama was black, and I said..."he's only half black; if he was full on dark black...he would not have won", to which he laughed and said that Obama was a horrible POTUS, to which I wholly agreed. (Obama was like a parent who wants to be friends with their children instead of disciplining them)

Anyway, in summation, I contend that Trump is one of the most glaring examples of white privilege that one can point to in order to prove it's existence, as Trump may in fact be the dumbest POTUS ever... He may be the MOST UNQUALIFIED ever...

...only the best people folks. Only the best.

"May 17 marks the one year anniversary of the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel leading the Russia investigation. The team has secured 19 indictments and five guilty pleas."

Oh, and IF (I don't think it's likely, but...it's possible?!?) he gets impeached (after Dems possibly get the house back) and gets run out of office, his DUMBFUCK legacy will be amplified...forever.

No

But make a broad sweeping generalization about any other group of people based on the color of their skin and see how that goes.

This is the thread topic we've been waiting for.

fuck this stupid question.

money exists, that's all.

Depends who you ask. I'm sure it helps if you're wealthy and have connections. If you grew up poor as shit this can be offensive to be told you had "white privilege".

I'll also add that this conversation will never go anywhere because people intentionally misunderstand and misrepresent what the term even means. Intentional ignorance ends this conversation quickly.

There was a reasonable white privilege discussion in another thread. It obviously exists, but it's a question of how significant it is and whether or not it's appropriate to shout "WHITE PRIVILEGE" in the face of an everyday white person who is working hard like everyone else and living a decent life.

Spoiler: It's not.

And I think TS has a good point that Donald actually may be the poster boy for white privilege.

I think it's much more based on class than skin color, but yeah to an extent I think so. Not the extend that many believe though, IMO. And it's idiotic for people to blame their shortcomings on white privilege.

True.

People also intentionally blur the definition because they want the freedom to use the term in several different ways. It's an interesting concept in a limited, technical sense. But it's also a favorite term for racists looking for cover.

Tbut it's a question of how significant it is and whether or not it's deplorable to shout "WHITE PRIVILEGE" in the face of an everyday white person who is working hard like everyone else and living a decent life.

It's not significant or it's not deplorable to shout "WHITE PRIVILEGE" in the face of an everyday white person working hard like everyone else?

Just look at all that white male privilege.

Nope.

In fact, their are many benefits available to minorities that whites are excluded from.

The problem with the concept of white privilege is that it breaks down pretty quickly when considering the full range of racial minorities in the US. White privilege makes sense when comparing whites to blacks, but not when comparing whites to racial minorities that are more successful int he US than whites are. But if one were to compare the disparate outcomes of Chinese in America vs American blacks you could talk about yellow privilege.

The real issue is that blacks seem to be operating at a disadvantage compared to every other ethnic group, so it is more precise and meaningful to speak of black disadvantage than a white advantage. I think a lot of this is based on the history of blacks being oppressed and some has to do with the inferior cultural norms of the American black community.

The latter. But also the former, in certain contexts. Sorry, I shoulda clarified, but I was lazy.

I assumed that's what you meant, but sometimes in this type of thread it pays not to assume. Thanks for verifying.

I think I largely agree with your take.

In case anybody didn't understand my last post, this is what I was talking about.

This post may be well-intentioned, but it's misinformed and misleading, and has absolutely nothing to do with the term white privilege.

I think this is a bit of a mispplication of the term, both in logic and in practicality. Height is a privilege, but of course it is more apparent when comparing a tall person to a short person than a tall person to a less tall person.

Similarly, white privilege is such a broadly applicable concept that to say it doesn't matter when applied to asians doesn't make much sense. It is about, when all else is equal, the advantages conferred by being white. Just because asians do well socioeconomically and have high levels of education doesn't mean that they suddenly have a racial advantage over an equally wealthy and educated white person.

The question is why shouldn’t white people be privileged in countries they created and built up? The Japanese are privileged in Japan, Saudi Arabia shows privilege to Sunni Arabic Muslims.
