Becoming a two-time 145-pound champ, in addition to his current resume, would give him a great argument. But something feels off, considering how he lost the title in such a brutal way; and the guy who beat him also defeated the fighter Volk had his greatest victories over and made it look easier.

Yes, because then we could say ilia was chicken and ran away from a full camp Volk.

No Aldo was two time UFC champ as well plus WEC. Plus defensed WEC title twice and UFC title seven times. So to put it basically he would need to win and defend the title at least three more times.

I don't buy that being a two time champ is better than one time, it means you lost your belt. Anderson Silva was a one time champ, does that mean he's not as good as Izzy?

It's a fair point, it just tends to be a rarity for a champ to lose the belt and then regain it at another time. So, it's an achievement in itself when that occurs.

People in sports like comeback stories so that plays into it as well.

Would you consider Conor a better all time great than Aldo? He won easily head to head, and Conor also beat Max, the guy that destroyed Aldo twice and took the division over from him.

Aldo is 0-4 vs Conor, Max and Volk, getting stopped in 3 and 30-27ed in the other - he wasn't just beaten, he was decisively beaten. All while 32 or under, so either in prime or very close to it.

And to top it off, Aldo's opponents never beat any of those guys either, going something like 0-10. So he can't even MMA math his way to a victory over one of them.

You simply can't have that kind of record against the other elite guys of your division and claim to be the best.

Max is 0-3 against Volk! And Volk is 0-2 against Islam and 0-1 against Ilia!! And Conor is 0-2 against Dustin who has never been champ!!! These stats against the elite guys of the division prevent these men from their claim to be the best.

Who gives a fuck?

Was he the GOAT before he lost to Islam or was he the GOAT before he lost to Ilia?

If he WAS the GOAT, and then lost his GOAT status to some guy who defended his title one time, of what value is GOAT to begin with?

Greatest of two months ago....of the night!

No because Diego will finish him easily. Topuria also beats him 10/10 times

I think others highlight why it's still Aldo. Illa just giving up the title kinda of means he's not really a FW.

He'll be a paper "champion", just like Tim Asspainall when Jon Jones retires soon🥈

Good thing Mexican Diego Lopes is gonna sleep old man Volk🪦

Who knows. Beating Lopes and Evloev at the stage of his career will be nice additions to his resume though and prove that he can beat the younger generation of fighters coming up.

This is an incredibly retarded argument.
