Does Tim Sylvia deserve to be in HOF

tim-sylvia-10.jpg

The future is now!

I would have to say perhaps so. Regardless of your opinion on the guy, 10 years ago he really was considered the epitome of badasses among MMA HWs and other MMA HWs were legit really scared of the guy.

If Stephen freaking Bonner is in it anybody should be in it. Between them Sylvia belongs, but ufc HOF is tarnished anyway.

Which fighters have tarnished the HOF? If your answer is Bonnar, well there are numerous good reasons for that. Frankly, that Bonnar is in the HOF shows that Dana actually does have some honor, decency and integrity as far as sports promoters go.

Bonnar lowers the standard. Almost removes the standard.

But even if we pretend Bonnar belongs in any sort of hall of fame. It's about who's not in it that tarnishes it.

You say Dana has honor, decency, and integrity when it comes to this...so how come Frank Shamrock and Pat Miletich arent in the UFC Hall of Fame and in the case of Frank, likely never will be? Don't see too much honor, decency, and integrity there. It's because Dana personally does not like them.

2x UFC Heavyweight Champion
Tied for most consecutive heavyweight title
Defences. Even thou the division was weak
At the time he did hold the Championship.

Thoughts??

he does in my opinion. but i'd guess that the ufc won't induct him due to the bad blood between the two, along with his unpopularity.

Look at the guys record. Outside of AA its not very impressive. He lost to almost all the good fighters he fought

I definitely think Sylvia should be in. Frank Shamrock, Tito, Pat Miletich, Don Frye, Rampage, and Rich Franklin should get in one day too.

Who wants to bet that Rousey will be inducted into the HOF very soon after she retires, unless she really pisses of Dana? And if a gatekeeper level fighter ever comes out as gay, he'll be inducted into the HOF as well.

Based on Title Defenses sure, but overall impact to the division? Not so sure.

Definitely. One of the most accomplished HWs the ufcs ever had.

I am going to rephrase the question to be whether or not Tim should be inducted into a legit MMA HOF

IMO - no.

He is an underrated guy. While he was unathletic looking and dropped off quickly after Fedor destroyed him in Affliction, he was a very tough guy to fight in his prime.

But I think he was a pretty good fighter who was a champ because the UFC HW division was pretty weak during his run. I don't think he is the sort of great fighter who should make the HOF

I am a firm believer a HOF cannot exist until the sports history fleshes itself out more. That being said, if a HOF opened today Sylvia is a maybe by HW standards, but I wouldn't put him in.
