Every serious MMA gym could hire a guy to be their "USADA consultant." This person's job would be to know USADA's rules, be available to talk to fighters, and give an educational talk to the fighters every week or two (or when USADA changed a rule/added a banned substance). They would talk to every new fighter who joined the gym and have them fill out paperwork stating all recent medical procedures and substances they've used, as well as educating that fighter.

Finally, fighters wanting to take a new substance, cream, lotion, supplement, or medical procedure, would run it by the USADA consultant first, except in emergency.

This would be the result of a gym USADA consultant:

UFC or a fighters Union should be paying for it, not the gyms......

I reckon something like that will become more common.

They can likely just call USADA with their questions. Is product 'a' good to use? etc. Much cheaper.

You just gave this guy an idea for a market with low competition and gullible clients that he can become a "specialist" in

In theory, yes. But realistically, I'd say every gym needs someone who can help the fighters overcome USADA.

It isn't that complicated, that's just what every fighter tells you because they cheated and want to make excuses.
There are even lists with supplements that you CAN take, you don't even have to do reverse searching.
And if you take any medication, just check that as well, that's it.

Do USADA have a list of approved products?

A company could send their products in to get tested at their expense, or send a sample of each batch to the lab to keep on file, then any shady shit and everyone's on the same page n nobody gets banned.

TS you going to fund the extra 50k or so to pay this "consultant"? Mma training is already expensive. And like Chael said owning a gym is a quick trip to bankruptcy. (I'm paraphrasing)

Yep. Mighty Mouse I think it was said he calls a USADA rep before he takes anything, even a Tylenol, just to make sure.

Theoretically, yes. That's always been an option, but apparently fighters aren't doing that (if we're to believe excuses like that of Chad Mendes). So something needs to change.

I'm talking about someone in an official or unofficial position, that acts as a leader and helps take the burden and the confusion away from fighters. Someone to take an active role helping fighters stay clean.

Hmm, I wonder who could fund such a thing besides me. Let's see, how much does Chad Mendes make per year? He got 50k last year from the Lamas fight bonus alone. And that's just him. He belongs to a gym, so the expense would be split between everyone, or however they wanna work it out.

Or they could just get banned for 2 years if that's cheaper.

Yes, but if fighters are to be believed, they are still making mistakes unknowingly. So it's not working. And the UFC are not sending their people to the fighters' gyms all the time to take an active leadership role and help keep things in order.

They do. informed-choice.org. Fighters can also call Jeff/USADA with questions (not sure how accessible Jeff is to the fighters).

It's not a terrible idea, TS. But who pays for this service? Can every fighter afford this? Ultimately, it's up to the fighters to take time outta their days to educate themselves and be responsible for what they put into their bodies.
