Let’s say he demanded more than they were willing to pay him for the next fight. Neither side would budge.

Could the UFC just keep him on the sidelines until he was too old to fight? Or at some point, does Conor get to leave if the UFC flat out refuses to pay him what he wants?

Who really has the power here?

The UFC isn't even a big time PPV business anymore. A volatile PPV fighter isn't as valuable to them as they used to be. The UFC will be fine without him so long as they move on from him and stop glorifying him/babying him - which, they probably won't do.

Meanwhile, what the fuck will Conor do while he's still under UFC contract? Keep in mind Conor has a contract that says what he gets paid, so the UFC would have to honor that figure - not whatever figure Conor decides. He signed a contract. He can't box again without their permission, he certainly can't fight MMA without them.

Conor will piss away his money and be back.

I would have thought his pay would already be negotiated in his existing contract?

If the UFC files a lawsuit against McGregor for fucking with their money. Then Conor will be in a situation where he either pays the UFC by fighting or losing money on lawyers to stop the UFC from taking a sizable portion of that Floyd Mayweather money.

I think the balance of power has tipped in favor of the UFC, depending on how ruthless they want to be in their dealings with Conor. If they use kid's gloves, then Conor can continue to do as he pleases.

Neither. If the fans want a specific fight bad enough, it’ll happen. Baffling fights have happened in the last few years.

But what if he will only fight if he gets 50% of the PPV money (of course he never would).

Would the UFC legally have the right to keep him from ever fighting again, if he just wouldn’t agree to their terms?

So if the contract already specifies his payment, why is there any room for negotiation and fighting over the terms?

Conor was (maybe still is) a very good fighter and a goat at selling fights.
Now I feel he is kinda boarderline. Like something had better happen soon.
I would lov to see him redeem himself somehow winning a fight or two this decade and lowering his profile somewhat but---
i sort of see him losing and getting worse with his antics and turning in to a Jason miller with a better resume.

They can offer him fights under his current contract. If he refuses to take them then that is on him and he remains on the shelf with no recourse.

I think it’s based on what’s specifically on his contract. They kept Randy couture on the sidelines for like 2 years , lol.
I know that the ufc does have to offer him fights tho, if they don’t ..Conor can sue and these aren’t life long contracts so Conorncould possibly just sit out and wait till his contracts void.
Let’s say Conor hypothetically doesn’t ever fight again but doesn’t officially retire and he comes back 5/6 years later, you would assume he isn’t under contract with the UFC anymore, if he was.. those ufc contracts must be legendary to be able to do that lol

That’s my question though. If he refuses to fight who they tell him to fight, is there a point at which they have to let him go?

Maybe after 3 to 5 years?

So then the UFC really does call the shots. It’s just strange to me that he seems to have so much power in deciding the terms of a contract that he already signed.

They would never let him go if they wouldn’t let Couture leave but they can keep him court for the next half decade if he doesn’t cooperate. They’d just sue the shit outa him and keep him sidelined.

Conor technically have to accept or agree to any specific fight but they should be able to come to a mutual agreement when it comes to specific fights.

The only answer I got is if Conor waits long enough and doesn’t fight for years or what ever time frame that contract lasts, Conor literally could do what ever he wants.

Makes sense. If the UFC were smart then, the contract would cover at least a five year period of time.

Nobody here knows exactly what the contract stipulates. The UFC and Conor can agree to almost anything, so who knows? Nobody that hasn't got insider knowledge truly knows who holds the cards.

But, one thing is for sure. Conor's cards are getting worse and worse, but... The UFC really wouldn't wanna see him anywhere else.

because that would get Conor to fight.

I'm not saying Conor can't negotiate. He can do whatever he wants. But I am saying that he can't break his contract because the UFC won't pay him his new demands as opposed to his contractual amounts. If the UFC decided to not pay him what's in his contract, different story

quick little example

contract says he gets 5m/fight
conor decides to tell ufc he wants 10m/fight

the UFC can still pay him the 10m if they want, enticing conor to fight.
OR they can say they will only pay him the 5m his contract says, and see if conor holds out/chooses not to fight

from there, connor cannot leave the UFC.

now, if conor says he wants 10m a fight
and the UFC says "we don't even want to pay you 5m" like his contract says

then the UFC breached contract freeing conor to do whatever he wants

ufc. cause conor already signed to a ufc contract.

conor has 2 fights left on a deal he was more than willing to sign so conor cant cry about his pay since he been the highest paid fighter for years,

I would have thought his pay would already be negotiated in his existing contract?

yes it was to make him the highest paid fighter on the roster. the contract he was more than happy to signed.

ufc already took a lot of conor Floyd money

so if the ufc u send conor a fight contract and when conor nor signed it than it on conor not the ufc.

That would already be negotiated in his contract. Which he has. You can't make terms up as you go along. Unless thatsvalready in the contract.

Maybe after 3 to 5 years?

They'll never let him go under those circumstances as he could fight for someone else.
They just keep him under contract until he's completed the number of fights he signed for.
